Primary spring? Polaris Black?

I can't seem to find anywhere what spring to run in the primary. I know a lot of guys are looking for a low engagement spring to help with the balloon issue. Sounds like most are running the polaris black, yet some say it is overrated.

I'm stuck, and here is why. Which polaris black are people even using? Because their are 5 different part numbers for the black all with different rates. Look here under oem drive springs.

I have a 2013 m1100 turbo hcr 162. I have purchased all used parts so far including mds weights, team secondary set up with 58-62 helix and black/white spring, evops brv, evops intake, evops boost hoses, evops elbow, and a rov. I plan to get the evops 215 hp tune in a year or two. I ride 9-11,000 ft primarily and I want a reliable set up that is tree riding orientated.

Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.

If you bought the MDS weights from Steve- just give him a call and he will set you up with the correct spring for the elevation your running/
As far as waiting for the 215 flash from EVO- pull the trigger on that one- bet investment for the gins and still reliable HP-
I ride same sled- same elevation as you.. your on the right track with your goodies..

The spring will depend a lot on how your clutch is setup (shimmed) and where you have the weight in your cam arm. A lot of the M1100 clutches were shimmed too far and there was 80 or 90 thou of belt to sheave clearance. This will give you a wicked engagement with the MDS weights. Right now while you are not riding would be a good time to make sure that you have 20 thou of belt to sheave clearance and set the clutch up with the weights in there to make sure that the roller to cam arm clearance is correct as well. If all of these tolerances are in check, the Polaris Black (100/340 is the rate) Polaris Gold, or Cat red should work just fine. The first number or start rate is important. You want it to be around 100-120 lbs of start rate. The finish rate is not as critical on this big girl, but I like it around 300lbs.

Thanks S/C! I bought them used but I'll give steve a call anyways.

Racin thanks a lot for the spring rate! I will be sure to double check all my clearances. My clutch is completely stock still and I will most likely run a xs809 belt... So I'll have to make sure everything is in check.

At least now I know what primary spring to start with.

Is there a target rpm engagement you guys are seeing that works well?

Shimming the primary is also crucial- but be carful- taking the spider apart to do so can be a pains taking thing as galling sometimes happins with the cat clutch.
