Primary spring bind?

How can the spring bind if the whole clutch spring and all just rotate together? The moving half just goes straight in and out.

Spring bind on the primary. Would be different than what is on the secondary. Like you said the sheaves move in and out (Straight, no twist). But the OD is tight in the spider. IMO not a big deal. The binding that will get you on the primary is if you coil bind it. If your clutch moves enough to compress the coils till they touch. You will have a major problem. So it would be coil bound.

Not exactly sure that is what you were after but....

When the spring is compressed straight down the spring expands. this is how you get coil bind.
