Primary Clutch Advice

I have an 08 Nytro with a very noisy clutch. I placed a post on hear last year and you guys gave me some great advice, the best being installing shims for the spyders. My local dealer does not seem to have much knowlage about this and did not win my confidence when I spoke to him about the matter. Do you guys know of a great clutch shop I could send it off to to have it worked over and hopefully quieted down? Is there and after market clutch that does not make noise on a Nytro?

Thanks,

Stu

I have the same problem. However replaced the whole clutch this year with a brand new one (old one had a cracked spider) Clutch still makes lots of noise and I haven't been able to pin point it. Doesn't seem to affect performance.

You will never totally get rid of the noise. Its the harmonics of the 3 cyl engine. If you take your rattly old clutch and throw it on a apex dead quiet. I have tried it. The shims is the best to try and make it as quiet as possible. Its pretty easy to do and any yamaha shop should have the tools to do it.

you can try ginding down the bushings that hold the rollers on but dont grind too much just enough to tighten them up a bit.

So am I to understand this problem effects all the Yamaha 3 cylinder sleds? Even the brand new ones?

The noise is from a combination of two issues, and nothing to worry about, it won't fall apart, but the spline on the end of the crank wears as the machine gets older and the in turn makes the spider bushings wear prematurely, so it transmits the noise louder.

If you think the Nytro clutch is noisy, I had an o5 Vector and it's clutch was noisy. I had it shimed and it was quiet for a while but the noise always came back. Neither clutch had any unusual ware, It's just engine harmonics.

Thanks for all the input guys, your knowlage is greatly appreciated. I have about 1000 miles on the sled now and will give the shims a try and hope for the best. I totally believe you that it is nothing to worry about, but it just bugs the crap out of me.:face-icon-small-ton
