pricing getting a little outmof control ?

Maybe Timbersled doesn't want to produce 7 million of them in a single season. And maybe they don't want to hand portions of control over to another company where they can't directly oversee the quality of the build. I know if I made something from scratch I wouldn't want to be giving portions of QC away. They seem to take great pride in what they make and so far they have doubled production every single year. We early adopters are in the infancy of a sport that will be around when our bodies turn to worm food... some patience is required.

Growing is great, but you have to grow methodically and with purpose.

Amen, although i do not always personally agree with everything timbersled does as a company, the good news, its theirs, their products, their design, and they are free to do what they see fit!

As it is obvious they are doing very well and growing and I find it funny guys are bashing on them for it. Now that they have reached a fairly decent production level the incentives like the demos, etc they are doing are pretty hard to complain about, as well as the quality increase in kit every year.

Anyone could go and have these things pumped out in china all day long for pennies on the dollar compared to a TS kit... BUT, quality would suffer. and then you totally inflate the market with one year model, used ones have 0 value.. its not all fun and games. With the introduction of the 15 kits. the 11-14 kits will definately see more of a reasonable drop for used pricing and now guys looking to get into it can hop on one of those.

If you don't like what they are doing or think you could do it way better. I challenge anyone to just go start doing it today. Its the american way. if someone can do it for better or cheaper. it will happen. So stop whining on the internet and go get that business going to take down TS!! lol

the cost is higher than one would guess

I agree.
Have built two home built kits so in a way, I have some knowledge...
The first was made out of used snowmobile parts, the second all of new parts.
I was surprised how costs add up. Cheaper than TS but a lot of work.
One off builds are of course not cheap but production kits have similar costs in material. I will continue building DIY kits but not of that its cheaper, only thats its fun and I hope I can contribute in some refinement and developement.

Many only look at the price and doesn't know the cost of building it.
Cutting $1500 is steep I think no matter of expected profit.

Owning a snowbike is cheaper than a sled as you have a vehicle you can use all year pound.
Owning both a sled and a snowbike, thats a different story....

TS has a excelent product, pricy but hardly no competition.
Lets hope we'll see more manufacurers, that will take this sport to a whole new level!

I find it interesting that people will pay $6000-$10000 to get a new air conditioner installed in their home and chalk it up to the cost of owning a home when the hardware probably cost $1000-$2000 and the two installers most likely have less technical skill than any one of Timbersled's employees. Like has been said, if anyone thinks they can do it for cheaper while still paying uncle sam, the rent, the employees, insurance, employee benefits, keep the lights on, etc. and still have some left over to pay yourself; by all means, we would love to see you give Timbersled some competition and help grow the sport. Manufacturing, engineering and running a company are easy to talk about; slightly more difficult to DO. I'm sure all of us would welcome a demonstration from anyone who thinks they can do a better job than Timbersled. It should be even easier now than it was for them 5 years ago because there is a considerablely larger market now and it's growing every year. Less R&D needed, less market research, less advertising. Just mass produce a quality product and sell it for $4500. Sounds simple enough to me. ;)

waterkid, can't wait to see your snowbike kit and please make sure that it costs 4000 dollars. I want it to be everything timbersleds kit is and more. From the way you talk we should see it out for the fall of 2014-2015 season. It's going to be a good year for snow biking.

If you don't like it, find a used kit or try another manufacturer. Pretty simple if you ask me.

I would think the majors would be taking notice of the number of snowbikes out there, will be interesting to see if they try to get in the game so to speak. I kind of doubt they would buy them out because it's a specialized product that has to be matched to a bike.
