Prestone Windshield Deicer Fluid

The last few years I've used this stuff. It works great for taking the frost off the truck windshield.

When it isn't winter I run the normal blue stuff from Wal-mart.

Now my windshield washer pump motor seems to be bad & I'm wondering if it could be from the chemicals in the Prestone stuff? My truck is only 5 years old & I don't use the washer that much, like a few gallons of fluid a year.

Anyone else had trouble with this stuff?

Not sure what the deal is with the Wal-mart blue stuff. I tried to use my washers the other morning and nothing. I looked into the resevour and it was froze/slushy. I run straight stuff out of the bottle with no water added. I went into the garage and the F'ing bottle was also all slush. I could live with this problem if it was -40 but it was 15-20 for the last couple days. No more buying the Wal-mart brand stuff.

I'd be interested in finding out if the de-icer stuff causes damage, I run it in my wife's car cause she's a girl and hasn't figured out the whole scrape your windows thing yet, and if she didn't have it she'd be driving around with a six inch square of clear windshield. Plus it's cheaper than remote start.

I have been using that Prestone de-icer in both my vehicles for a few years now without any problems. I leave in year 'round.
In fact, if I take the car in for routine service, I fill the resovoir ahead of time, because the dealer is "thorough" and would fill it with blue stuff. Nice gesture on their part tho.

Take you washer fluid pump out and take it in side for an hour or to to let it thaw out. I had the same thing happen and the pump was froze up. Or you can take a hair dryer to it. Just don't break it like I did, man the old lady was PISSED!

I ran boiling water through the resivour a few times and melted the block of ice in it. Put in the De-icer stuff and haven't had a problem yet.

Ok, I had an unopened gallon of the blue stuff (Super Tech) so I set it outside last night. The temps were in the low 20s. This morning it wasn't froze solid but it was pretty firm/slushy, like denser than jello. I was like WTF. I brought the jug inside and read the label.

Good Down To 32 degrees! I thought, nice, colored water. LOL

Sometimes, if I didn't learn the hard way I wouldn't learn at all. I thought all this stuff was good below freezing because I've never run into this problem in over 30 years of driving. Live and learn. I'll be checking the labels from here on out.

I trust Prestone now that I know my washer motor works. I'll keep using it in the winter. It does a great job of taking the frost off the windshield in the morning.

The Prestone stuff works great! Really helps bead the water off and gets rid of the ice, frost and snow. Two thumbs up here:cool:

Agreed, the Prestone De-Icer does work great. I've been using it every morning lately. Spray some of that on there, let the wipers make a couple passes and it's clear.
