Premix in an injected sled

Ok, I have a question that I was laying in bed thinking about last night. Usually when I rebuild a motor I pre-mix the first tank of fuel to make sure there is plenty of oil and to let the oil pump bleed all the way through.

I got to thinking, on the CFI sleds, is that still ok. I assume the oil mixed in the gas won't give the injectors any issues.

Thoughts?

Sled_Guy, Wondering the same exact thing last night as my top end is going to be redone.

Paul Hurley, Fire N Ice owner ran the pizz out of his Turbo D-8 last year... premix only ... no oil injection...

I dont think the break in oil will raise problems.

Make sure you use oil intended for premix.

When I got my '09 D8 this fall, Polaris had a tag on the filler neck stating that I add two pints of oil to the first tank of gas. So I would assume it would not have any affect on the CFI.

Do it !!! Do it !!!

It shouldnt hurt. if it did why would polaris recommend you premix the first tank of oil and all their new sleds with CFI? When i had premix in mine and broke it in it ran just fine. You should have no problem adding oil to the first tank of gas for a new motor.

See, I guess if I ever bought a brand new sled I would see that label. ;)

Thanks guys... wonder what I'll lay in bed and think about tonight. :)

ok,
so kinda off the original post, but similar thought..

i am rebuilding an old 94 arctic cat zr700 for a friend..i was thinking about ridding of the oil injection pump (lines melted and lost oil..motor BOOM last year) and just using pre-mix..

what the heck do i do with the oil pump..if the pump is not pumping oil, can it burn out the pump and ruin the small gear driven off of the crank and ruin the crank/engine..??

would i need to jet the carbs bigger fo rthe pre-mix or will premix oil be thing enough to use stock jets??

owners maunal doesnt really say anything about blocking oil injection??

any ideas or should i leave it alone..

thanks

You might have to reroute oil lines or drill the oil holes on the crank to accomodate a change like this. I don't know you specific sled but others brands (beside Artic Cat ) need some other mods.

donbrown..
thanks for the reply bud..
yeh was sitting on the couch after the post and thought of that as well..there is 2 lines that go from the pump to the crank as well..seems like it would be something for more expienced builder..i will commence as normal and leave it alone. ;)

boy that answered my question fast..haha..

thanks again..

this is the only thing I think of with the CFI sleds concerning pre-mix. Pre-mixing actually leans the sled out, does the CFI compensate with extra fuel? Or is this a cheap way to get a little edge with the CFI's in that you are leaning the mixture just a little bit?

There would be no way for the CFI to richen up the fuel mixture for the extra oil unless there was some sort of break-in chip that burns off after so many miles/hours of riding.

Runs so rich anyways it wouldn't matter much adding the oil. But forgot to ask, why did you rebuild it? Mileage? Or are you so paranoid that you guys like to rebuild them just because?

She must not give you that much attention at night huh!:p

I'm married with 6 kids... attention has long since become a scarcity at my house.

Marv1, the rebuild was because of some stuff that came in boxes from the UPS man that I had to bolt on to it. ;)
