Precautions when rebuilding Crank/Crankcase/clutch

So im getting a new crank and crankcase this week and this will bet the first time i have rebuilt one and have a few questions. the crank i bought came with a brand new clutch, do i need to have this clutch balanced? and also the clutch i have now has a different spring on it so should i put that spring on the new clutch? also do i need to have my flywheel balanced? is there a certain way i need to put the water pump on the new crankcase? and is there anything else i should know so i dont screw this up and have to do it again. thanks in advance.

water pump should just bolt right on. Make sure you use good case sealant. I use ( Right Stuff) from your local parts store. Also, Get the torque specs for the case bolts, cylinders, and head from your dealer when you get the crank. The flywheel wouldnt hurt to balance and many recomend it. The clutches come well balanced from polaris.

Jskatt has some good info, and knows his chit, but i highly disagree with the clutch balance statement.

you MUST balance your primary clutch, i bought a brandnew clutch and indydan still had to balance it when i sent it to him to check...they are not done well from the factory at all..trust me.

indydan can also balance your flywheel the same time as your clutch..so that will help

I second that. Factory clutch balancing is hit or miss. Get it balanced to be safe and make your engine last longer and vibrate less.

I would send your clutch to brad 1200psi on here power addiction its around $40. I would pull the cover off the back of the water pump and make sure the impeller is good and bearings feel smooth. I have taken apart several motors and have never seen an issue with the flywheel side so I wouldn't worry about that. drill out the oil hole for the pto end on the case. you have to drill it at an angle

You will need a new water pump seal and the oil seal under that. I dont think you can get them out without damage.
Dont forget to seal around the cross shaft oil tray in the center of the case.
Check flywheel inner ring glue.
Seal head bolts.
Get torque specks and build instructions in the deep snow manual in the stickys at the top of the 900 forum.

cluth balance

Polaris
Is so far off on there balance that I never put one on a problem motor with out a balance 1 in 10 almost make the grade!! sorry here you our not right at all about the polaris drive clutch.
There is more problem with Polaris drive clutch's now that 10 years ago.
the quality control went down when there were working on a new sled to get people back to them. Backward's yes but true. 10 years ago there clutches almost never needed balance not true now.
