Pre-ride Gear Checklist

Does anyone have a good checklist for heading out for a ride? I put one together for ATV rides, and it was really helpful packing for rides to ensure I didn't forget anything. I'll take a first stab:
>Sled
>Oil, fuel
>Avy beacon, probe, shovel
>Helmet, goggles, gloves
>GPS
>Drinking water
>Pants, boots, jacket
>Camera
>First Aid Kit
>Cell Phone
>Emergency kit--blanket, compass, fire starter, mirror, etc
>Tow strap

I would add a folding saw, zip ties, a couple of energy bars and spare socks and gloves. Also a good idea to have some form of communication like FRS or Rhino radios.

I'd add a tool kit/leatherman in there too...and depending on the weather what you are wearing underneath your jacket & pants.

Besides whats not always in or on my Ski Doo:

Lunch
Sun grasses
Map
TP in my pocket incase I need it in a hurry

Shoes for the drive home, I wear my boots going to save time at the unloading spot.

I would recommend a nebo tool, check them out on ebay, they are pretty cheap and have all kinds of ends for it, very useful to not have to carry one of every tool with ya...

The check list is a good idea. I think it could be a list of things that are not already in your pack or on your snowmobile. If you include everything else it will be quite a long list.

I forgot my coat once. Several times people I ride with forgot their boots. One rode in his whites all day. Bout froze his feet off. How many times have you heard this, "Damit, I forgot my ______________!" Fill in the blank and then post it here.

Balacalava, Knee Pads, Body Protection, Pain Pills, Lighter, Camera, Strap to clutch start a motor with broken pull rope, Phone #'s for local Emergency Response/SAR, Sunscreen, Telescopic Magnet, and always Duct Tape. Have fun. EW

I like trail mix. Maybe a spare pair of googles, and one more thing I invested in is a sno-bunje rattler to pull on a ski when you or your buddy gets stuck. One h*** of a nice tool. Rope, spare gloves, survial gear, etc. Great thread too.

I've spent lots of time in the garage the night before scratching my head about this, then left wondering what I'd forgotten on the way out.

Good idea on the "B" list stuff too--lunch, sunglasses, etc--never upset to have some chow and sunglasses along the trail.

No need for a multi tool...I ride with a couple!!!:D:face-icon-small-win:beer;

:DFunny:D
Good call on the Snobunjie. Mine always goes with me.

As for the "Dam it, I forgot my________________!
This could be really long list because of ONE guy I ride with.:D
-key
-oil
-lunch
-radio
-gloves.
I swear one day he's gonna show up without his sled! :D

Adding to my check list!
ABS, Snowpulse, or the new BCA AVY pack.
Not only shovels, beacon, and probes but people who are trained to use them. Also people who are avalanche awareness trained and CPR certified.

Good thread, I like the idea of pain pills. Had never thought of carrying any until I blew my knee out. Thanks to my buddy for bringing some or it would of been an even longer ride out. lol

letting someone no where your planning to ride who's not gonna be with you and cares enough to think "hmm" when you don't get back:beer; as important as anything you could bring with you IMO

Yep, got a list on my computer I go through every time I pack up to ride.

Four sections w/ examples:
-sled (Bolts tightened, tools out, odometer#1/history zeroed, etc)
-pack (shovel/probe, rope, water bottles, flashlight, camera, duct tape, hat, map)
-me (helmet/goggles, tekvest, beacon, fog rag in jacket pocket, sled keychain, knees, socks)
-truck (Toolbox, meter, extra tshirts/socks/shoes, lunchbox).

I compiled all the comments and put them into a checklist. I'm trying to post the .pdf, but the 57kb doc is over the site limit of 17.5kb. Tried shrinking-no luck.

Can I post this somewhere on the site, or can a moderator allow the larger file?
