Powering up MFD

I know it can be done, so where do you connect power to the MFD to display with engine off. I have ES with a battery and was thinking it would be cool to have the MFD powered up.

Or for those that don't have ES and would like to retrieve info without firing up sled and hooking up to an exteral power source.

There is a 12V dc connector in a bag with a Velcro strap next to the clutch. It's labeled. I have thought about getting a rechargeable RC 12V battery and then run it through the ignition switch. I don't have ES so I thought it would be handy to wire it so that when the sled is not running I could turn the key to the spring loaded side (ES) start and as long as I held it there the gauges would be powered up.

If I power up the mfd using the plug and a 12v power supply. Can I setup my security system etc... and use the mfd as if the sled were running??

A battery from a quad will work right??
