power valves.... block or not?

Well unless you understand what exhaust valves do and what the mod does then you're not going to benefit. IN FACT flatlanders like yourself and NapaMatt are better off NOT doing the mod and even going to a stiffer spring as opening up sooner at sea level has no benefit. You'll just lose some low end torque that can be a big benefit on your trails! Power valves are NOT brand specific, developed by Yamaha in the late 70's! Here is some good info: http://www.alfagroupnews.com/snowmo...ctic-cat-variable-exhaust-valve-system-basics

Have FUN!

No trails here in Iowa, D-bag.
The only place I ride is in the mountains, multiple trips a year. I have a new pro coming in the fall. I'm interested in finding out what kind of results the guys that are on here are experiencing when blocking exhaust valves. I thought this was the polaris pro forum. I don't care what you know or have tried on ski doo, nothing against ski doo, I have owned a zx and xp. I know what the exhaust valves do and their springs.

G MAN, Seriously, who uses the word "Diss"? Are you just a keyboard jockey in the hood who types about snowmobiles, or what?

Wow, I have plenty of friends in Storm Lake, Orange City and Souix City who are all really GREAT peeps so I can only assume you're from Council Bluffs maybe? An Omaha wannabee? Man, you have some pent up frustration my friend! Maybe you should move further west so you can actually see some snow once in a while; would help you with your anger issues! In the meantime you should try getting a day pass to Mt Crescent so you can practice sidehilling that massive 300 foot ski hill you have in your backyard (when they make snow that is). :face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-ton

Have FUN!

PS - Pass the popcorn!

Now your making me laugh! Sorry man, you are wrong again, i live a few miles from sioux city. Is there anywhere you are welcome to stay?? Seems like you've been pushed pretty much as far west as you can go! Grew up in michigan, know people all over northwest iowa, now you're in oregon. Maybe it's time for you to take a swim!

I'm done now, all i wanted to read was actual results from, REAL people on their findings after trying this modification to their Pro's. Back to topic!

Okay, that post made me crack a smile! And I have to admit, I too want to hear some real world results from doing the mod to a Pro! I'll try to get out tomorrow or Monday and give a report back.

Cheers!

i went out yesterday in rotten soggy snow. the type of snow that you get stuck in the second you venture off a packed trail. The sled ran good, a few time it only pulled 7600 but most of the time i was right at 7900. I think blocking the powervalves maid a diference, i am sure some may disagree. I am sure pulling more rpms now.

I tried, but had to unblock ASAP. Could not get up the mountain! Live at sea level and we start we some steep parts. As soon as I gave it some throttle it would DET and go into limp mode = 6K rpm max and have to shut down engine to clear it.

Might need diff springs? I dont THINK it went on the rev limit, and that never gave me DET before (pretty sure).

Thoughts?
