Power Valve Question

I have a 02 RMK800 with the power valves, one of the valves blew out, stripping the bolt holes, I managed to tap larger bolt holes, & installed with bigger bolts, & luckily no engine dammage occoured, these are the aluminum valves which I just heard can break & dammage or destroy the engine, so the question is, how much power is lost without the power valves? cause at this point I'm considering removing the power valves, & capping the exhaust holes.

You will probably see some bottom end power loss. Without the valves you change the low RPM porting. Cat boys are doing it on some of their sleds.

Thanks all, sounds like I'm better off keeping the power valves, as long as I clean them at least once a year, do the stainless valves gunk up like the aluminum ones do?. I have a 600 Cat with PV's also, they dont seem to gunk up nearly as much as the Polaris.

My SS valves seemed pretty clean when I pulled them last spring. I was running a semi-syn oil (Arctic Blue). I have run Walmart oil on the aluminum valves and they did gunk up more. Just cleaned them once at the end of each season, but seriously the aluminum valves belong no where other than the trash. They will break sooner or later, and can cause some major damage when they drop into the cylinder. Two SS valve kits from Babbit's is around $180, includes new diaphrams, gaskets, springs, and SS valves.
