Power Steering on sleds

So I rode a Yamaha grizzly this weekend and never thought that power steering was needed in atv's. Well now that I spent some time on it the only thing I could think about was how easy it was to turn around no steering feed back through bumps.

I would give up 10lbs for effortless steering wouldn't you? I think that would be so nice to boondock through the trees like that.

I also took a look at this system and it looks like it could easily be put on the rack on any chassis? Maybe some of you guys that have worked on them could shine a bit of light on what it takes to power this system?

I was wondering how the Griz would be with that option. I haven't had a chance to ride one yet with PS. Interesting concept for sleds though...

I would feel the same about PS as I do about electric start..I will keep my comments to myself.

I thought that it was over rated too, until I rode that Grizz. The more I thought about it the better it was.

Maybe I'm getting old and lazy!

I think on a trail sled its just a matter of time. The true mountain segment will never want the extra weight. Truthfully in my opinion it just sounds like one more thing to break to me. I like simple and less moving parts.

Add it to the Yami's first. Their not weight snobs. :D

I think it's a valid idea but then Holz and Timbersled with build a $300 "power steering removal kit."

I thought it was a gimmick until I rode a Grizz this summer. I think it would be awesome to try on a sled, especially working through tight trees.

I wonder what the additional cost would be though..... Might be a dealer installed option for a while when it does come out?

interesting thought, never ridden a yami with p/s but just might have to think about that for a bit :) great on the trail, who cares in the trees you usually dont steer with the skis, just weight (which reminds me I need to lose a few lbs)

hey now i was gonna make that kit:) mine was gonna only be $275, figure i'd beat the competition...

I think the power steering helps keep both wrists intact when you hit something with one front tire. It reduces the kickback. For a snowmobile you would need the power-counter steering adapter kit.

007 I know how you can get truely effortless power steering and starting. Get a brand new sled and I'll take on the hassle of steering and riding for ya.

What do ya think? pretty sure it would need to be R&D for a couple years but worth it. pretty sure it wouldn't break either. :D lol

For the power Steering option on an ATV it's a $1,200 plus option (Polaris Sportsman 850XP). I don't know about you but that's a lot of cash for a luxuary option. But I would bet you will see it in the next few years as a Spring Check option. I have rode a few ATV's with it and on the Can-Am Outlander you actually have two setting to control the amount of "help" it gives you. Cool system but not for me yet.

Emmmmm.

NO.

I could forsee a steering dampener of some sort, so when your ski's get kicked by something in the opposite way of what you want, it wont just throw the bar outta your hands. (has happened to me several times).

I'd love to see some sort of steering stabalizer, or a dampener.... but for a 450-500lb sled, you dont need PS.

There seems to be some thoughts going on though?

I'm thinking that it would take alot of shock out of steering for the little hidden rocks and stumps. On the trails back here on the flat land P.S. and some 14" carbides would be crazy!

I would be interested in trying to make something out of junk parts, maybe keep my eye open for a wrecked P.S. four wheeler.

Gotta say that I like your enthusiasm. Also I really like the idea of the stabilizer. Kinda like what is used on crotch rockets and other bikes. I can't believe the difference it made on my CBR600. And the weight was negligable. Couple pounds max.
