After 300 miles the paint on my spindles is already flaking off and little signs of rust showing up. A place in town will powder coat them for me, but they have to be taken apart. Is that possible? I havent taken them off yet, but by looking at them it doesnt look like I can take them apart? I know some of you have powder coated yours what did you do?
Thanks it is really appreciated!!!!!

Yes, you can take them apart, take a torch to blister the old powdercoat and then sandblast the remaining old powdercoat off. Powder coating over the old will not be very durable.

they dont come apart , get as much grease out as you can then bake them for a couple hours at 350 ,, after you have stripped the paint,,

i used a wire wheel on an angle grinder,, many options there,, bead vlasting would be best , as sand is a little course for allum

spindles

I plan on bead blasting them, but if the shaft is in there and they get powder coated wont they be pretty much stuck together? Getting the old stuff off is now problem. I already did a set of a arms, but the spindles are what I am scared about.

They come apart, take the bolt out that holds the tie rod on, take out the other allen bolt that's in there, then remove the snap ring at the top. Tap the top of the spindle and it will fall out of the bottom. Then just pry the plastic cap off the top after you get it taken apart.

The bottom part, the part that is most likely rusting isn't aluminum. Your powder coater should be able to put them in a strip tank for a day or so and get all the paint off.

right the post and heal and tie rod arms ( im not talking about tie rods ) are steel. and are welded together ,, the middle part is alum

i have pcoated 2 sets of 06's and one set of 08's .

even if you dont get it apart you can get it done ,, when i do it again , no custom colors,, just thier shop black ,, it seems harder / stronger and more durable.

i did one set in green and the coat seems thinner..

The 08+ is different and doesn't come apart. Horrible design.

Horrible design? uh ohh!? I dont want to buy any of those dinky timbersled ones. I would like to just keep the stock ones as they are easy to get and cheap (Im hard on stuff) What is so horrible about them? Should I be changing to an older style?
