powder coating prep, need help

getting my rails. running boards, spindles and gas can rack and read bumper powder coated. I am wondering what I should do for prep to make the finish stick

if anyone has a link for aluminum prep for powder coating i would greatly appreciate it

If you aren't the one powder coating it, take it to your powder coater clean. Most have a preferred method, and will prep it before shooting it regardless of how it comes in.

Most will blast with a fine abrasive (non-ferrous), solvent bath, then wash.

I do a fair bit of coating and if its alloy your doing don't worry too much as the coater will need to bake it first to remove all the impurities from the alloy then it will be glass bead blasted with a very fine powder like bead then rubbed in acetone before coating. They will know what to do..

lots of critical aspects of the job go into how well the powder performs

prep...completely clean of oil (including finger print oils) or loose material metal or sand dust...some type of porous or abraised surface enhances adhesion of the material applied to the metal. IT"S EVERYTHING

compound...minimum industrial hardness factor of material (critical in snow and ice adhesion is the surface smoothness of the material once setup...hammer tone material is super hard and durable but creates an excellent surface for snow and ice to adhere to and defeats the purpose of powder...TRY FOR SMOOTH)

application...maximum material layer depth per manufactures specs...too thin scratch through no durability....too thick creates an orange peel surface that snow glues itself too plus effects adhesion to base material

heat setup..exact bake temperature and duration (cooling techniques heated metal upon app can effect performance as well)
