Possibly onto a Pro-RMK this week

Good evening all, I am looking for any results/reviews or the like on the Pro RMK thus far. I have the option this week on purchasing one and I can't get it out of my head. I currently have an '08 XP Summit X 154 and like the sled and was thinking of upgrading next year. However, between the rmk and the etech, I don't think I can wait. At this moment, I am leaning towards the rmk, but still unsure, so any insite to what everyone thinks of the sled (especially thoughts on the motor noting the past couple years with Polaris 800s) would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone. Ride safe.

have 3 rides on my pro so far..in 3 ft of good pow the only sled that would come close to mine on the hill was a 163 etec with 300 miles on it(the etec was thru break in and mine was on first ride)..with that said..mine got the himark everytime...I havent liked the older xp's..but the etec was very nice..and i could ride it..it is far improved over the older xp's as far as sidehilling and carving....much closer to handling like a m-8 or dragon..the pro is a league beyond..it handles awesome..suspension is awesome and the 143 hp motor is the over acheiver of the year...as for reliability..I dont think its going to be an issue as it was on the dragons(I have an 08 dragon that has gone down 3 times in 3 seasons)..this motor has no fuel related mapping issues that I can find...it purrs...motor is super tight and quiet internally and very very responsive...they do sport the same wimpy a-arms the dragons did..but there are places on here that sell holz arm kits for under 425 deleivered..only other issue i know of is the rear of the tunnel is weak if you carry much back there and jump it hard..easy enough to reinforce...best thing I can say advice wise is take both out for a ride..and see which one feels best to you...both are good sleds..

mine rips, have just over 200 miles. been raining here for a week, snow coming back, can't wait to go bust more pow. awesome sled, smoothest power of any 800 i've ever ridden. came off modded M8 and wouldn't go back. would rather ride this sled bone stock...

I love mine too. I have let quite a few other people ride it as well (including Cat, Yamaha, and Doo riders) and they all have had a universal thumbs up. Of course I could give the standard response of "ride them all and see which one you like" or "be sure your dealer is capable", but I won't. Get the Pro, get the 2 year warranty, and ride it like you stole it!

I came off of an 09 XP from last year and I have zero regrets on this Pro. For sidhilling some of the steepest country around this sled is what you want. A good comment I read on here was about the 800 rated at 143 HP saying that it's not holding any of it back and I agree 100%. compared to my 09 XP this sled feels better all the way through the power band. It's not a slouch coming out of the hole and for on and off the throttle in the trees it gets on top of the snow and keeps on pulling. Ride one if you have the chance but if you don't then you better just buy it and you can asure yourself you did the right thing after your 1st ride on it.

you just as well have the newest thing on the now, the 800etec is ok but it isn't the newest greatest thing same handling as the old ones, at least with the pro you get the sled everyone is talking about and all the fun of the best deep snow handling sled out there.

I had the same quandry. I ride a 2008 XP. Very stiff - tough to sidehill. Expert riders can make it do anything but really tough for me when I'm trying to sidehill with a huge penalty below for a washout.

I found a place to rent a pro rmk which a great way to thouroughly try it out. (Adventure rentals - Jackson, WY)

Bought an rmk the next day. Unbelievable sled. I don't feel beat up at the end of the day. Very easy to get the downhill ski up in the air. SUrprised to hear that the RMK dyno'd about 20 HP less that the ETEC. Feels like it has the same power to me.

So far the only things I'm not thrilled with are the brake lock (a joke) and the hood latchs. Very minor issues. Overall really happy with the PRO RMK. It is a blast to ride.

I was stuck with the same problem before the season even started. I managed to talk both the Polaris and Doo dealers down to very reasonable prices, well good for Canada anyway :face-icon-small-dis I thought it over and researched for a couple days and still couldn't make up my mind. In the end it came down to a better deal though Polaris.

I must say it was a great choice, love the sled. I have 400 miles on it and haven't had any issues.

I have the exact same sled you have, 08 XP. I purchased the Pro RMK this last Saturday morning and went out on it all day. My wife rode the XP and I rode the Pro changing back and forth through out the day. All I can say is, it is a difference of apples and green beans, ha, ha. The Pro is so much easier to throw around, that the xp doesn't even hold a candle (the 08 xp that is). It took alot more effort to lift a ski in the powder on the XP than the Pro. On the Pro all you have to do is tilt your head and its heading in that direction. I'm not the best of a rider and just going out the once on this new sled I felt I was capable of doing alot more. I have heard in some cases the new e-tech will win in a straight up hill race (sometimes) but to me I like the mobility much more than winning a drag race up a hill. So I am very happy with my purchase and really looking forward to a great season!!! Good luck with your decision.

Its a gift that keeps on giving.:drum:
I've only got 100 miles on mine but it is the funnest sled I have ever ridden. Plenty of power, very smooth ride and it goes where you want it too when in the trees or on the hill. Do it and be happy.

Thanks everyone. After much deliberation and sitting with a beer on the ol' XP. I think it is time to move on. PRO RMK here I come. I have no issues with Doo and will likely buy another sled from them in the future, but have heard so many good things about the Pro. Plus the local dealer has treated us great since we bought the wife's RMK 700 last year. I am sure it will take some 'getting used to', but that's half the fun.
Now I just have to sell my Doo accessories so I can buy some Poo ones for the Pro.

Cheers,
Butter

my dad got rid of his summit and bought a pro this year, he is hell bent on using his gas tank and bag that he bought from skidoo. i built him some aluminum strips to run between the channels on the tunnel so he could rivet his tank caddy to them and his bag fit on their good. thankfully i had a polaris the last couple of years so all my stuff fit.
