Possible Whistler Area trip in January

Well the time is getting near to start planning for the winter.

I have some Friends coming to whistler from oversea's (South Africa) 2 weeks at the start of january.

I am thinking of meeting them in whistler for a few days.

I would love to bring the sleds and take them out for a day as well as get some riding in myself.

Questions?

- Where is a good place to ride with good signage in the area.
-Good place to stay with secure parking..... might have truck and deck or possibly 4place enclosed trailer.
-Whats the conditions likely to be??
- I will be driving down from the north (PG) is Pemberton HWY open in the winter??

Anyone else got any other suggestions?

With a 4 place trailer I'd stay in Pemberton. Parking in Whis is a pain with a rig.
Pemberton Valey Lodge is great accom and excellent parrking.

Ride Rutherford which you will be able to take any Novices (if they are) up providing there is some viz. They will get a Glaicial experience to take home. Or ride the Hurley if you can find a local guide which there are many.

The Duffy lake road from Cache Creek to Lillooet and then on to Pemberton is open mid winter. Depends on Avy conditions but 95% of the time its good to go. Has lots of vert to it so hauling will just take some time....being from PG Im sure you can handle the 4 place on awesome winter roads :)

You will be 6 hours to Lillooet and then 1.5 hour to Pemby. Unhook the trailer and head in Whistler for some festivites when you want......it is a cool town.....but so many peps. You will love Pemby...most riders live in Pemby btw.

Thanks for the insight on the Duffy Lake road. Ya I am not to worried about the road conditions as you know from experience what most of our roads are like up north in the winter....... more concerned with the potentially big yellow gate across the HWY.

Rutherford was my initial first choice, however anyone know where would be a better place if the weather socked in?? Also how to get trail passes, as we will be riding midweek?

I would personally like to stay in Pemby however the out of town crew all ready have rooms in Whistler. Anyone got any tips on which hotels have the best/most secure parking for a sledding rig in Whistler??

Whats in store this year for little blue??

thanks for the info?

The Listel Hotel in the Village has "some" overheight parking that will fit a lifted truck with sleds on a deck. If not, there is an underground parking lot next to the firehall that has overheight parking that most of the hotels charge $20.00 a night. Unfortunately you will not find underground parking with a 4 place.

Regarding trailpasses; Only the main riding areas, Brandywine, Rutherford, Hurley will charge for grooming and if you ride mid-week you may not even get charged. Brandywine is the closest riding area to the Village, lots of parking for a 4 place and groomed 95% of the time. I personally only ride there about once or twice a season but ride the Sea to Sky Corridor almost every weekend of the winter. (Just can't tell you where) :face-icon-small-ton

If you get nice weather take your buddies to Rutherford as Randy mentioned. The view is spectacular but take as much gas as you can carry because you WILL burn it, especially if it is deep. 21 KM of (sometimes) groomed trail and then the biggest area you can imagine.

If the big open areas like Rutherford are socked in, then you could ride Sproatt, Seagrams, Tricouni where there are trees. Parking is very limited at these places and I do not recommend a 4 place.

Brandywine (just south of Whistler) has huge parking, easy trail access and good tree riding as well as Alpine riding. Whistler has a lot more action at night if that is on their list.

Have fun!
