Portland, Oregon vacation

I am planning a trip to Portland, OR to visit a buddy of mine. What are some suggestions to see out in this state during this time of year? My trip is planned for over July 4th.

Might be interested in doing some fly fishing. Good suggestion for this time of year? River? Maybe an outfitter since air traveling will be difficult to carry my fishing hardware.

He mentioned about whitewater rafting. What is a good area to go for this?...never done it before.

Any good sights to see?

If you have an extra day, drive over to the coast - less than a 2 hour drive from Portland to Seaside, one of my favorite vacation spots. Some cool stuff to do and see and it is beautiful country. Another awesome sight is Multnomah Falls, definitely take that in!

Take a drive to the Oregon coast for the day or book a day trip on the Deschutes River and get some splashing in or fly fish, but that would probably be a weekend trip, another thing is go see Mt Saint Helen's,

I'm sure your buddy has ideas for ya too.

Ditto on the coast. I like Cannon Beach. White-water rafting??? Hmmm - Dunno. I think White-water rafting is fantastic in Idaho. Some of the best rivers around.

Hit Florence and tear up some of them there Coastal dunes!

Beautiful place Northwest Oregon is!

Multnomah Falls is neat and stop at Bonneville dam and look at the fish window too this is on the way.

both of what he said.

The falls are a short drive and worth the hike. Found some trails I want to explore more(but i went in Feb and the wife didn't wanna explore). The coast...well I love MN and the lakes I grew up on, but after 2 days on the Oregon coast I am ready to move there!

Also you could head up to Hood River and hit Full Sail brewery or the brew pubs in Portland.

If ya like books spend some time at Powell Books.

We flew out there for a seminar a few years ago. We went and saw a lady about a bear. Umm I believe the place was called "The Dancing Bear". :D lol Holy cow Portland Or. has to be the worlds capital for strip clubs. They were everywhere!! Not like that's a bad thing though. After that trip I even considered relocating ;)

Thanks for the replies so far. What type of fishing is good there right now? Here in Mi., fishing is biggest hobby in the summer next to dune riding. Nothing better than getting a 3 man limit of walleye in a hour and a half. Spring and Fall for the king salmon in deep water.

I'm just nervous if I make this trip out west that I may have to make a move to exit the auto industry..... long track in the winter, and fish like heck in the summer, and hunt big game in the fall.......Yikes, I can see it already.

Nice pictures!
