Porting and head prob?

Ran great last year. with slp pipe and pc5. Ported and put head on this yr, and runs ok most of the time, but sometimes when you hammer it it falls on its face for a couple seconds and then when u let of and get back into it its ok, did it 4 or 5 times on ride. Put ethnol plug in still did it. Home in garage when I hammer it will almost backfire. I ride 6-8500 Head is slp 6-9. If you slip into throttle slow and steady it doesnt seem to do it? The thermostat was removed at the time.

Almost sounds like your tps is out of whak, try reseting it pretty easy once you have the right tools

Had that problem with a pc5 on a ported, twin pipe 800. Had too really fatten up the numbers down at tps postion 2-5. Would do the same thing. Would hesitate and then go if blip it off idle. Added some fuel down low and trial and error until it cleaned up. Was told that the ported 800 like lots of fuel off idle.

sink TPS?

As far as I know you do not need to re sink the TPS every time you alter the map, or do you? Can someone please clarify this? I have the PCV and slp pipe can PA head and have been slowly altering the map to try to fine tune it. I have an issue where i am at full throttle, let off below 5k rpm and get back on to WOT and she sometimes goes into DET and limp mode. Somebody please advise on the sinking of the TPS???? Not trying to hijack this thread just thaught it may be relevant.

Your's sounds like you are just hitting the rev limiter/ det sensor. I just put a pa head on mine. It was horrible at first until I threw enough weight at the primary to keep the mid range overrev in check. The tach is not quick enoug to keep up with what the motor is actually doing as you accelerate. Try some more weight. And or a lighter initial tension on your primary spring. I had to do both.

I had this same problem when I put a head on mine with the pipe. It took alot more weight to solve the problem. I ended up running the SLP MTX weights.

Add 4 grams of weight to start. 2 will help get you off the det/rev limiter, but I am betting it will take 4 or more to get your motor to settle into the 8100 area where you should be at. Let us know

Ding, Ding, we have a winner. Same on mine - put on mods, down low it runs like poop, up high no problems. Needs more weight... (SLP even says in its instructions you will have issues if weighted too light)

I wouldn't go without the PC V as it needs the added fuel. On short blips you'll be fine until you stretch it out a bit.

Looking towards exh, sensor or fuel injection? Should figure out soon.

As stupid and silly as it sounds, check to make sure your throttle cable it tight. A loose cable gives these things fits as well. And base tps setting. Both of those show up Bottomend, mid range rather then topend. Good luck.

Carls did. Brings the temp. down,. Worked good on our low snow conditions.

Side note - When I did my 660 top end on my 2012 RMK, Carls recommended that I drill two 1/8" holes in the thermostat to keep the coolant flowing. Sure it doesn't flow alot when closed but it's just another option incase you want to go back to running a thermostat.
