my dads house isn't in the garmin database. he bought a 150 dollar tomtom and sure enough the address was in it.he uses it for business and said it was alot better than the garmin overall.Ive used garmins for fishing and sledding with good luck but I would try a tomtom for road use.

sorry bro, your Dad needs to update the database.

Garmin is the world leader in all aspects for a reason. I trust them in the air, and wouldn't trust anyone else on the ground.

ya the latest update put the road as shangme instead of shanghai.lol.but hey its kinda on there.brothers month old(with updates applied)garmin nuvi does the same thing.

change the name on the street sign...easier than getting Garmin to do something. :D

I have a Tom Tom in my truck for about a year+. It's been great and easy to update. I like it better than the big deal unit I have OEM in my wife's Patriot.

I also have a Magellin Crossover that I use in my Yamaha Rhino UTV. It has topos, waterways, and regular highway use.

It is also very water resistant., I pound it crossing streams and in the rain. Also plays MP3's and shows .jpg's. Also it is cordless and runs up to 8 hours on a charge. I seldom plug it in on the Rhino, just charge it at home or in trailer. It was only $199 at Walmart. Got a R.A.M. mount system and it works great.

I like the Garmin NUVI 350 because it will voice prompt you for a upcoming turn. Recently we had to take two cars to Chicago for a family wedding. We found that my brother-in-law's Tom Tom would take a different route to the same location than the NUVI and not always the most direct. His complaint with the Tom Tom was incomplete instructions. Example Tom Tom-"West on I-80 to exit 138. Turn left onto Summerset Drive." Example NUVI 350-"West on I-80. In one mile exit 138 on right. Take exit 138 .1 mile to Summerset Drive. Turn left."

I bought the el cheapo Garmin Nuvi 200 from Walmart

I took it on a big road trip this summer with the wife and kiddies, holy crap what an awesome tool to have!

The Nuvi got rid of a ton of stress I normally get when trying to find my way in a city I've never been, plug in the addy and forget about it.

Like BugAl says, it tells you to turn and gives you plenty of time to get in the right lane etc... "In 100 feet turn left" "Turn Left" "in 500 feet turn right" etc... very easy to follow the voice directions alone without even looking at the screen.

I'll never road trip without a navigator again. The cheap Nuvi (less then 200 bux) worked just fine for me.

Absolutely... seems the cheapest Nuvi's are the best deal. 200 bucks and you are in the game with a very good unit. My parents have the 200W, fricken awesome. So easy to use that even my mother can use it perfectly. Nice big screen and everything works great.
