Pop can heaters?

hmm.... cool idea..

Looks very similar in concept to passive solar water heating system.

I am not sure how that works though, as I don't know if it would put out enough heat..

Try it and let us know!

Always cool to see new ideas. Now if I only had a little sunlight....heck even a little more daylight this time of year would be nice. Length of day 5 hours 25 minutes, tomorrow will be 31 seconds longer wahoo!

Why not just use black hosing in a coil? lot less work
you want something that can transfer heat very quickly and easily. I would think copper tubing would be something you could use easily, but that increases the cost.

I would guess that since most hose is made of rubber / plastics that it would not be a very good material to use.

What about using like 3" round duct work for like a heater. I seen the stuff at menards and was actually surprised how expensive duct work is. That is proably why so many people use pop/beer cans, its cheap and easy.

Probably not much, any air moving through at a decent velocity would cool the cans off really fast. Now if we're talking 55 gal. drums, you might have something that would put out some heat.

or just get the garage warm..... a 50k one will heat a 2 bay garage thats halway insulated.. we had over 200k btu;s in our garage the other day to thaw the slab out... had it to 105 in half an hour.. I love gadgety stuff like this... but when it comes to makin heat in the garage. I burn stuff.

We use a diesel burner like that and it does the job but with the advantage of heat comes the disadvantage of a headache after a few hours....i usually crack the window but then it kinda defeats the purpose............i say wood stove all the way. wood is typically free or cheap here on the west coast and a stove isnt too bad

Propane heaters pump out a lot of moisture. They can make the garage wet inside and things start to rust. Then you shut the heater off and you have ice.

Heater

The average amount of energy that hits the earth in a year is 1000 watts per square meter. In areas you really need the heat it is much less. While the use of cans seems like an interesting project. A skylight or a cutout in a south facing wall using transparent material of the same area will heat the room
as well if not better.

i took an old wood stove and built it into a waste oil heater. heats my 2000 sq. ft. uninsulated shop to about 60 on a 20 degree day. cost me about 50 $ to build and burns about 1 gallon of used motor oil an hour. ill see if i can find my plans or the website
