I currently have a 308. I love it, have taken down many elk and deer with it. I am also a big fan of the 270 it is a great gun. I do know the 270 will shoot further and flatter than the 308. We are talking 400 + yards. I use reloads on my 308 I shoot a 150 grain nosler balistic tip. I am shooting up next to the 30-06 in ballistics. You will not go wrong with either gun. I would just take in to account your average distance on hunting. For me it is about 250 to 300 yards. My father and brother shoot a 270, and I shoot the 308, we are always shooting at rocks at further distances and it is very close but the 270 has an advantage over the 308.
