As one who regularly likes to get into heated discussions on the subject, I wouldn't mind having a sub for politics.

I'm on a couple different forums setup like that and to tell the truth it works out well.

However, I've also come to believe that SW although a very busy forum doesn't necessarily have the funding to have paid mods pining away at making sure the threads are in the right spot.

You never argue with us on here!

I've yet to find a forum that pays its mods anything.

SW Admin just doesn't trust any of the inmates here enough to give them more privs :)

(really don't blame them either :D)

Honestly, of all the forums i'm on, SnoWest has the fewest mods of any of them. Even the ones a quarter of the size.

Who cares? Maybe if we did we could find out who really cares on here about the crap that is going on in this country and the world. Swampy :eek::beer;

Yeah I agree there's too much at stake for the country as a whole, and our sport in particular, to not keep the subject in front of everyone.
Maybe people will get sick of reading and hearing about the thuggery and corruption in DC to get politically active in their state and community.

2010 election Senate and House elections is the first opportunity to at least block legislation. 2012 the chosen one is op for re-election, heaven forbid.

Yes, because wasting time on Snowest discussing politics is the benchmark for who cares about the country?

No.

  1. many political topics affect (effect?) sledding; wilderness declarations, fuel, property rights, gun rights, truck/trailer regulations, fees & taxes,
  2. it's summer, we're all just itching to ride, makes for post topics off sledding, smack talk a
  3. fouled plug is fine; someone aptly stated above "don't like it, don't click on it"
  4. didn't seem to be an issue for "Bush bashing" (no, not a Bush fan)
  5. on Snowest.com, 2 of the 6 news items are political plus one for the BlueRibbon Coalition (lobbiest org), so half of them

I thought it was too???? ha ha... :p

Lately there hasn't been much discussion, and the posts are not discussions either.. just people cutting and pasting blogs and email alerts into threads.. Not much original writing or original thought to be found...

I say yes. That way it will be easier to find the important things on here, like what beer everyone likes, and how people in Kansas try to find women, how to cook corn on the grill, and what dumb cops did stupid things last week....

Great reasons to give it the proper respect it deserves by creating a political section. Seems like asking for a seperate section is being interpreted as getting rid of political discussion here? Maybe it will add more weight to the topic if it is not mixed in with random youtube vids and beer polls.

"proper" and "respect" and "deserves" are words I would hesitate to use regarding the political process. it is, by it's very nature, dirty, underhanded, divisive & infuriating because politics is 100% about power and who has it.

our politicians (professional power brokers) work with lobbiest (professional power buyers) to sell power over the people much like NYSE sells stocks & bonds

it is completely intertwined in our lives, it wasn't supposed to be in America, but it is, therefore i'd hate to section it off leaving some people in the dark, drag them kicking & screaming into the light, open their eyes

I sent the following in a PM to the OP. Thought I'd share it with you all.

I don't *think* this will happen. I could be wrong, but I'm doubtful. The problem is that there was a recent election (you might have heard about it) that has ticked off a large portion of the SnoWest user base. That, coupled with summer, has caused a glut of political topics. My guess is that once the snow flies (please let it be early this year) the political rhetoric will die down...at least a little, until next summer.

We'll keep an eye on it, but right now, I don't think it is going to happen.

Would you trust any of you? I am willing to listen to people that are willing to be mods. They have to have a track record of level-headedness and following the rules. That narrows it down DRAMATICALLY to, like, two members.

I'm curious, though, do you find the dearth (not darth :) ) of mods here to be a hinderance or a help? Do you enjoy the reduced supervision or feel that we need more? Just wondering what your take is.
