polishing my tunnel?

SO I have broken my sled down to get a bunch of powder coating done and I figured I might as well polish the tunnel but I have never polished any aluminum before. the tools I have are a neumatic buffer, microfiber applicater pads, microfiber towells and some mothers aluminum polish. So any pointers on how to go about this would be great.

Go to the performance modified section on here, there is a very detailed sticky topic there posted by Dunner I believe. I would give you the link but I am on my phone and i am not sure how to do that from here. I know that it is an awesome thread and I plan in doing his technique when my sled gets here on Tuesday. Good luck!

well I went and read dunners how to polish and I'm not so sure I want to do it anymore, for one that is a ton of time way more than I expected and two i'm a little apprehensive about doing the boards on a 09 cat and third I'm not that patience?

There's a product out there called Herd. Its used on the aluminum deer guards on big rigs. While it will still take alot of elbow grease to get it to perfection. You can get it pretty damn shiny pretty quick.
The stuff ain't cheap, its about $18CDN for a bottle, but its worth it. We use it at work for all the firetrucks, and we used to use mothers, Herd is worth the extra 10 bucks.

I don't remember what i used on mine, I think it was mothers. I was very surprised at how well it work for the amount of time it took. I used a microfiber cloth to apply it and a towel to wipe it off. Looks a lot better.

You can pull off a half arsed tunnel polish job in an hour or two. Sure, it wont look like Dunatic's work, but it will still look a lot better than it probably does now. Fire up that buffer, use the polish, and let it eat. The worst part about polishing, is getting 1/2 way done and knowing you still have the other half to do! LOL. I use OOO steel wool, followed by a powerbal and mothers aluminum polish. Good enough for my limited patience.
