hey guys i have thought about polishing my tunnel but i never really started so before the season over christmas break (off school) im thinking on polishing my tunnel on my 2006 rev 800 144" so im just not sure what to use or buy.

thanks for the help!

if you can post some pics of and polished tunnel that would be great.

How much work do you want to put into it? If you want it to look like a mirror and its not all scratched up then you can probably use mothers powerball and a days work. If it's scratched up pretty good then I found that an orbital sander or DA sander for cars with 1000 grit to start then 1500 then 2000 wet will get it smooth. A block of jewlers rouge and 8 inch buffing wheel. Have fun and plan on a couple good days. They look sweet when there done.

PS. Don't use a sander that spins in a circle. The random orbital is the best as the fine scratches won't all be going the same direction.

Try a mothers powerball and alcoa aluminium polish. Alcoa makes a whole line of aluminium polishes and sealers for heavy truck tires. I use it on all the aluminium on my truck (wheels, dry box, headache rack . . .) and it works great. Never felt the need to polish the tunnel on my sled though.

Ditto on the Mother's. I have to finish mine, it's hard to do it all at one time. I keep getting interrupted.

Wet sand with 1000, 1500, and 2000 grit. Then go to town with Mothers and a microfiber cloth.

I firgured you had sanded by how nice it looks. Sweeeeeeeet. Now if I can figure out how to keep snow from sticking to the polished parts like a magnet I'd be set.

Mothers powerball and mothers aluminum polish works great!!!!

I used the powerball and it just shredded.
Buy the "flitz" buffing wheel, its 100% warrantied and I used "what a shine" aluminium polish and then top coated it with Flitz. Looks great and the snow doesnt stick to it.
SKIP ;)

Plan on spending 20hrs on it if you start. Nothing looks worse than a half *** polish job. Remove everything you can to get under stuff rether than around it. Know guys that use mothers kits with #1 compound...to finish compound. Don't know ecxactly how many times he went over it but it was the best i'v ever seen. Rails and everything.
