Police Bust Chop Shop _ for Snowmobiles

BANGOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The determination of an angry snowmobile owner _ plus miles and miles of tracks in the snow _ have led police to a suspected chop shop for stolen snowmobiles.

Police say the man discovered Saturday that his snowmobile was missing from his home in Van Buren County's Arlington Township in southwest Michigan.

The man, whose name was not released, called police and set out on a borrowed snowmobile following tracks in the snow for about 10 miles through fields and along roads.

Relatives and friends followed by car as he trailed the tracks to a home in Bangor Township.

"The tracks that they had followed led right up to a garage door," Michigan State Police said in a news release.

Inside the garage, police found the man's snowmobile, already disassembled, plus three others and many snowmobile parts.

Police said they had numerous suspects and expected to file charges.

Bangor Township is about 25 miles west of Kalamazoo and some 155 miles west of Detroit.

Surprised the guys who owned that garage didn't get themselves hung by an angry mob in there ...

Good news.

They must have been some real pieces of work to "drive" a snowmobile to their chop shop.

Sixteen-year-old Tyler Davis followed the tracks in the snow to find his stolen snowmobile and several others in Bangor Township on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2008.

That's a great story!! Finally get to read about someone getting busted for this chit.

I think I would have had some vigilante justice coming from my end if it were me tracking down my stolen sled. I have NO patience for thieves!!

finally some of these bags get caught!

even better to see that a kid as young as 16 is smart off to take the initiative. it's obvious the sport is important to him and that he will do risky things to keep it in his life.

What a bunch of morons. Who drives a stolen sled in the snow up to the garage? I think idiots like this should be neutered so that they can't breed.
