Police and Sheriff Officers driving recklessly on the interstate

I was driving on I-82 in eastern Washington and was passed by a city police car from the west side of the state. Later I saw the car stopped along the freeway and the guy that was driving was in a tank top and shorts. Later he passed me again doing at least 80 mph and weaving in and out of traffic. If I were to drive the way this guy was and been pulled over by the state patrol, I’m sure I would have received a reckless driving ticket and maybe more.

Does this irritate anyone else or do City Police and Sheriffs officers from any jurisdiction have the right to break the law while driving anytime and anywhere?

You have no idea what he was doing, could be he was trying to catch up with a possible suspect. Cops ARE regulated on how they drive, too much so. Ignore the cop and go about your daily business and let him do his bloody job. Just because he's in tank top and shorts doesn't mean he wasn't working.

sounds like just anoter dick cop!

Yet another blow joe that hates on cops......until he needs one. Then they are god gift to you :face-icon-small-dis

Only by the frigen cops! the best part of the incident involving the officer and the gun is that after I filled a complaint he had to appologize for using bad language towards me! You can call me a whatever you like but dont point your gun at me!

Right on the money!

Cops are the most corrupt of the bunch there is this thing call professional courtesy so that one crooked cop will always protect the other crooked cop. That is why there is no such reckless driving charge, or a police with a DUI.

Yup, I get upset with it. There are police officers out there that abuse the privledge and that isn't right!

I was driving down a busy road one day and coming up to a red light. I had been matching speed with a police car for a couple miles. It just so happened that he was in the other lane as we came up to a red light where he proceeded to flip on his lights and go thru the intersection. Think nothing about it right, he must have got a call. About 1/2 way to the next light he turns off his lights. I am behind him quite a ways now on my way to Sportsman's Warehouse. Sitting at the light to turn into the parking lot I see my police officer friend climbing out of his police car and he is not in uniform. As I go into the store, I run into him at the gun counter where it is apparent that he is just shoping.

Is this right, he11 no!

So you wonder where the common person develops an attitude towards cops, here you go...

Cops have an ego problem... i think that's why they behave the way they do.

Fire rescue guys are a good bunch though... don't have any problems with them. Same get-the-job-done work ethic without the assshole attitude.

I will find out what he was doing because I emailed the Chef of Police of this Western Washington Town. The Chef is not happy with the employee and has opened up an enquiry on what happened.

I usually have no problems with the police, I have not been ticketed in 35 years (high school) it’s just too bad one cop has to ruin the publics image of them.

This happens all the time, I’m driving down the interstate and some sheriff deputy from 8 counties away passes me in the left lane doing 80. If you’re a cop remember that you are always under scrutiny, if you talk the talk you need to walk the walk. If you have a reason to be in a hurry, turn your lights on so you don’t end up killing someone.

I see the same thing happen all the time, more often than not they are speeding. Have even seen them tailgating, cutting people off, road raging and driving with their light/siren only to pull in to get a bite to eat. But I do not envy their job, I'm sure it's quite stressful and dangerous at times.

Sounds like a normal day on the road for me, minus the siren and being a cop.

The Routt County sherrif was just convicted of DUI and prohibited use of a weapon.

My wife is a Deputy and all of her co-workers are a bunch of azzhats! That goes for State Patrol too. It seems that the only cops that aren't harassing peeps are the local town cops! It seems now a days that a badge and a gun make these guys and gals 10 foot tall and bulletproof! Chit, the other day I follwed a Steamboat PD officer through town (25 mph speed limit) and he flew through town at 45! I followed him to the local 7-11 and he got a cup of coffee! Being the law does not make you above the law! They should set an example instead of making us an example but then who is to generate the revenue?!

Mule is right about the Fire-Rescue guys though. Get in, get out and get on with their life.

I've dealt with fire guys that think they know it all. They can equally be a pain. I work with police, fire, and amby all day long.

Not all police officers are bad, but you deal with the 1 dickhead and it pretty much ruins it for everyone.

1 in 450000 over the last 10 years, see what I mean? I also bet that his punishment was a bit different then the people.

that 450000 in 10 years was just the state of Colorado.

I used to be a bouncer (in my best Ron White voice) and dealt with cops on the daily. Some good some bad, but it's the bad that stick out. I've witnessed first hand the kind of crap they have to put up with and I do have some simpathy for their situation. However the driving thing really pizzes me off as they are just as much a danger on the road as anyone else and their position of authority over that situation, lends them to be held to a higher standard. To me if the lights aren't on and siren going that car better not be breaking the speed limit or any other traffic law. It also ticks me off when they are using their publicly owned and paid for by the taxpayers car for personal business and transportation. I can't use my company vehicle for that stuff and they aren't supposed to but I've yet to hear of a cop getting canned for it.

These guys shouldn't have gone into that profession if they can't keep their cool in stressful situations and can't hold themselves to the standards of the law and public eye.

And people wonder why I own guns and many times carry one.

2 examples.

1: When I was bouncing one night a guy passed out under the bands cube van and got ran over when we were leaving for the night after closing. The rear duals went right over this kids chest and head. I called 911, the lead singer started CPR until the ambulance showed and the cop that responded (who I know well) is running around like a chicken with his head cut off and freaking himself and everyone else out. Not a good example. He was more concerned with trying to pin a DUI on the driver (which was well under the limit) than trying to do anything to save this kids life (which after farther assesment was impossible). Not the guy I want showing up in my time of need that's for sure.

2: 2 weeks ago I was on my way back to Fort Worth from MN when I got a call from ADT that my security system was going off. I had them call the cops. When I got home 3 hrs later there was no sign of entry, no card in the door, no nothing. No notification that the police had responded. I had to go into my house check it out myself before I could allow my mother to get out of the truck. I called ADT to find out what was happening and they had not recieved any notification from the police either. Later I talked to my neighbor and he watched the cop pull up to the house sit in front for about a minute and leave. Never got out of the car, never went around to the back, nothing. Turns out it was all a fault in the security system but could have been much worse. In order to even have a monitored security system in Ft Worth you have to buy a yearly permit to have one to the tune of $150 to cover false alarm calls. All that and the cop didn't even bother to check it out and leave me any form of notification that he had checked it out and it was safe for me to go in. Yeah the city police cheif got an e-mail about it and I still havn't gotten a response.

And people wonder why I own and many times carry a gun.
