Polaris's Drive Shaft Fix

If a snowmobile was as difficult to break as an anvil I would be a happy man! Provided it doesn't weigh as much as an anvil. :face-icon-small-hap
50 lb. or 250lb. anvil . I would take a PRO in a heart beat if it only weighed that much.

Clamp Testing

Okay...just playing devils advocate here. How do they test the durability and longevity of the clamps? The SnoWest crowd is a fickle animal. I can just see it now, if the clamps fail. "I can't believe Polaris sent us this crappy band aid fix for our driveshafts just to keep us quiet!" Again, I am just asking the question. Do they put the driveshaft on some type of machine that spins it really fast and bounce it up and down?

it will work. next year you can just upgrade to the driveshaft in the 2014's.

So your saying everyone with a 13 should be required to 'out of pocket' for a proper replacement a year later?

Yeah, ever manuf screws up, every manuf has issues, blah blah blah. It doesn't make it the right way to do things.
Do it right, not get by doing it "the way other manuf would do it".
I'm so sick of that excuse or take on snowmobiling. Everyone is so accepting of crap these days because there is so much of it out there.
Your paying the $$$$$$ for this crap wouldn't you rather get something functional (for more than a year or 1500...or 100 miles) from that money?

As its been said before, Pol doesn't give a damn, they just want to shut you/us all up and do 'something', like a gallon of oil. I have oil, thanks.
How bout extra warranty (or at least a drive shaft warranty), show us you have some confidence in your work/fix Pol. No, that may actually cost them $$$$..

And hey, I'm not even a 13 Pro owner, but I could be the one buying a used 13 Pro and have to deal w/ this patched drive shaft crap 1000 miles down the road when warranty expires..

I don't mean to dis any aftermarket companies fixes to this issue, props to them being even quicker on that than Pol and being a step ahead. Hey Pol, take a hint from these guys..hire them if you have to. Stop being cheap to make an extra .15 cents per sled/drive shaft.

Now, I'll say, its great that Pol is doing something...and quite quickly at that. Hope the 'patch' works, but they are just looking to get it through warranty, just like they did with engines in 11. Once its out of warranty, who cares..they'll be making money on 14's then.

-Still a disgruntled 11 Pro owner...waiting for a used 13 Pro. :P

Why would any body want to update from a 11or12 to a 13 ? Just put an aftermarket belt on it and be ahead of the game , The engine is still the same except for them adding to the skirt AGAIN . Who knows maybe the 11 and 12s' will be more dependable and worth more . Screw warranty , it doesn't help when the riding is ruined , is it worth it ?

Hawkster, you need to ride a 13 before you ask the question about why would anyone want to upgrade. They are that much better! Even if they are making the same horsepower at the crank, it defintely feels like they make a lot more on the snow. To me (I had an 11), the power difference feels like you might expect from a porting/pipe/head job. I get that and a four year warranty that would be voided if I did those mods to an 11 or 12. The throttle repsonse is also quicker and the whole sled just feels much smoother and lighter (because it is). I had been patiently waiting for a manufacturer to put a belt final drive in an OEM sled and Polaris did it. I bought if for that reason and all of the benefits that came from it. I don't care all that much about the carbon fiber frame members or the lighter driveshaft. However, the seat is definitely a lot better and the lower A arms seem to have resulted in a change to the overall front end geometry that makes the sled handle better in a lot of conditions. Those were good improvements. They stubbed their toe on the driveshaft situation which I think is entirely a manufacturing issue versus a poor design issue. They are making that right. Ride an 11 or 12 and then ride a 13 and let us know what you think.

I'm hoping to over chritmas , I'm all for the belt drives ,changes everything about the machine for the better . The only people I've ever heard complain about belts are some snow hawk riders , it wasn't so much as blowing belts but they didn't like the break away clutch on the bottom gear , so some converted to a 520 or 530 motorcycle chain . I've got over 14,000 on mine and am happy with it even though I go threw one a year . I won't be leaving it any time soon but the wife will always need a new sled . It's a toss up between two brands and it's not gonna be an 800 , been there done that .

Damn! Are they really that much better? I just bought a 2012 Pro RMK 600. One ride so far and I gotta tell ya this is one awesome sled! Now you are making me think I screwed up. Oh well, the plan is to give this 600 to my son and snowcheck a '14 800! Even lighter, hopefully more HP and the driveshaft issue worked out! HA!! It's all smiles around here because we finally got hammered with snow! Too bad is still bottomless - the big danger on Grand Mesa is rocks and man do we have lots and lots of those! A-arms around here last year were in short supply ---
