Polaris Tethers or Aftermarket

Guys, I just bought a 12 Pro and I am really wanting to install a tether on it. I prefer not cutting/splicing wires if at all possible. Is there a tether out there that simply plugs into one of the many connections under the hood? Recommendations on the tether, where to get them and ease of install would be appreciated.

Local dealership says no to the "plug and play" type tether and that I would have to cut/splice...etc.

Thanks

We've found the Polaris rubber button style tethers to be junk.

This is what we use on all of the sleds in our riding group:

Pro Design Tether @ Amazon.com

Pretty easy install...there are 2 wires with connectors under the hood. Just install 2 "male blade" style connectors to the 2 tether wires, install tether, route wires, and plug it in...

Here's a thread on the topic with install pics (search is your friend).

I ordered the one from Polaris that just plugs into the harness connection that is under the hood for a tether, no cutting or splicing. I then mounted it above the hand warmer switch, and it worked good this past weekend! I think the price was about $25.

Thank you. This is the tether I was looking for. Sorry for not using the search function first. Appreciate your time.

We carry both types. We also have the kind you can mount in a hole.

I have had a couple of these on two different machines. They worked great and it was easy to put the clip back into place. Although after a couple of seasons of use, the plastic clip would split right after the cord loop, eventually moving apart like two fingers move away from each other (as a scissor would open). The grounding mechanism works on spring tension separated by the clip. As a cracked clip eventually scissors open do to the sled bouncing around and coupled with spring tension on the clip, the clip comes out and the motor is grounded. I fixed it using epoxy on one and a combination of a tiny screw and epoxy on another. Also the internal spring mechanism is made of brass and corrosion builds up. This corrosion is enough for it to stick (as if the clip was still in it) and will not ground the motor when the clip comes out. It was an easy fix, just take it apart and clean it up. No matter what tether you use its a step in the right direction, just ask anyone whose sled has ran away on them or your sled is on its side, throttle stuck wide open and the track lugs whipping round and round going whop whop whop on your brand new 200.00+ jacket and actually didn't mind after all said an done because it wasn't your arm that wasn't taking the beating. I have since switched to the OEM rubber button style tethers and in the 5 years of use, I have never had a problem with them.

Anyone have a part number on the Polaris tether that is plug and play?

You get what you pay for. Gunnar version (made in Sweden) uses similar design but a lot better built. It uses an o-ring to prevent any moisture from getting into the mechanism so NO spring corrosion issues. Best tether made IMHO!

I've had the Polaris tether on my last 3 sleds and never had any issues at all... my buddy also has a Polaris tether on his and no issues.... Easy to install, cheap, and do the job they are intended to do. I won't own a sled without one.

Can you post a pic of yours and were it plugs in. I have ordered my new pro with one from my dealer. He could not find it in book. Not sure if it will be put on at Polaris or dealer will put on. Thanks:usa2:

I already posted a link of where they plug in - see post 13 in this thread. Pro ones look just like the one in post 12 without the handlebar mount; just drill a hole in the console.

Well my latest ones are on IQ sleds as I don't have a pro, but it should be the same thing. There should be a pigtail coming off of the ignition switch where the tether will plug in. From there just figure out where you want to mount the switch pin and drill a 1/2" hole and your pretty much done... takes all of 5 minutes to do. The unit looks virtually identical to the one sold by SLP.
