The matching empty plug right under the bars?
Mount it in front of the switches.

Don't use the metal washer.
Add a #6x1/4" long wood screw in the rubber cap to help keep the plunger pressed in fully. Threaded into the rubber.
Use a small amount of dialectric grease in the cap.
The above things make it a very reliable tether. :)

Follow the wires down, the ones that go to handlebar electronics. You'll find a black bag with all of those connectors in it. Within that bag, you'll find a plug that is unused, and will accept the Polaris tether plug.

Hey sheetmetalfab, have you had issues with the actual Poo tether? I have had issues only with the aftermarket versions with a RED rubber plunger. Issues were as you stated above with the center striker mushrooming out and making contact sporadically. I've had nothing but good luck with the OEM Poo version and had them on the last 5 rides with zero issues. I'm only wondering if the screw is preventative or if you've actually had the issue on the black plungers? I do like the dielectric grease idea :face-icon-small-coo

I have had these probs with the Polaris tethers, and no longer use them. Got to where I had to use a screw, then the plunger began binding just as you're referring. Went with a ProArmor and have been very happy with it...

I had to use the screw in my Polaris (black) plunger before my sled ever even saw snow. No BS. Since putting in the screw, however, it has worked flawlessly.

I've never used one without a screw.
The washer causes issues also in not letting the plunger get depressed enough.

I've heard of a bunch of pro armour tethers sticking open after the clip is pulled. This allows the sled to keep running.

If the poo tether fails it turns the sled off.
I'll stick with fail/safe instead of fail/crash.

Hope my ProArmor keeps working, I know lots of guys have had issues with them.

Last time I used, and had probs with the Polaris one, it did not kill the sled, and is why I went a different route...

My plunger was either deformed and sticking or freezing in the run position.

First I have heard of that.
Were you running it dry?
Any dialectric grease?

Initially i ran the grease because the dry tether is horrid to squeek into place. Especially when its a little old.

If it keeps it moving I suppose thats a side benefit.

I had a little grease in it, for same reason you mentioned.

Back when I used them, the only time it would get exercised is when if I fall off, otherwise I'd unclip it from my coat. I hated plugging that thing in...

It prob got moisture in it from sitting or getting washed, causing it to freeze, or maybe bound up from lack of exercising it.

After that particular day, I just said screw it and went a different route.

Someday, we'll be lucky and have a fail-proof snow compatible tether. Hopefully. :face-icon-small-sho

I guess i use mine quite a bit.
Lots of wheelie over ejections and alder bash bails.

I must be a little ocd because I always push on and off a couple times to make sure its fully seated.

I've ran many years without a tether but just trusted the luck.
Put the tether on when I tried the muenster finger throttle.
Figured I might as well keep using it and it keeps from having the upside down track rev scenario. The finger throttle is on ebay for cheap if someone is looking to try one. :)
It just wasn't for me I guess. Too many years of thumb therepy.

I posted this awhile back but here is what works very well over the years and pretty fool proof- and as SMF stated a small amount of dialectric and never has failed for my crew.

This has not been my experience. We went to the Pro Armor because we had multiple situations with the Polaris tether being pulled and the sled not shutting down - and not due to freezing. We have been running the Pro Armor for a couple of years and it has been the most reliable for us so far.
