Polaris Synthetic VES II

Do I really have to run Polaris's VES II oil in my 2004 700 RMK like it says, or is this a way for Polaris to get more money?

No, I've run amsoil, blue marble, and even some cheep stuff from the local HW store. As long as it is tcw3 it will work. Now that said some oild burn cleaner than others. I found blue marble burned really clean vs the polaris ves II oil. Did not have to clean the exahust valves as much.

i also run blue marble in my 02 rmk 800.... works just fine and burns clean

my dealer is a polaris/ski doo dealer and the owners choice of the 2 is a polaris sled....but runs ski-doo oil in it..i dont know which oil but its ski-doo oil.. he said over the past and seeing the two brands(polaris/ski-doo)exhaust valves..the ski-doo valves were incredibly cleaner.they started running doo oil and seen huge differences
one of the techs said that he had heard doo oil is made by castrol but wasnt 100% sure..but he highly recommended it...
