Any Comments on the Shift?

I've heard nothing but praise? Seems too good to be true of us Canadians to be able to head across the border and pick up a Shift IQ for $6999 or the Shift RMK for $8399.

As anyone in gone to the states to buy their sled?
Any problems with this?

Thanks

The Shift RMK is basically last years 600 RMK without the funky WE shocks. It's a great platform and price if you are planning on a mod, like a Carl's 860.

we were looking at those a couple weeks ago and they seem to be a real nice sled. the only downside that i seen was the 600 motor but like stated before it would be perfect for a mod project..its a great starter sled for the money and could even mod it and have less put into it than a brand new dragon or such

I'm going to a shift 600 with the highmark turbo set-up. When you factor in the fact that a Dragon 800 is $3000 more, then a turbo kit starts sounding pretty cheap. And, IMO, taking that sled and dropping $3000 will give you a nice light, fast sled that can take an 800 (depending on you mods of course).

Thanks for the comments,

Seems like a nice base to build off of.

As anyone crossed the border to pick one up? Anyone know whats involved with that?

All depends on what you will be doing. Trail riding, you get what you pay for. No outside rear wheels (tippy handling), bottom end shocks, lack of modern gauge and no CFI. Great base chassis to build up as you would add top end shocks, seat, different track, BB, EGT's, skis and color. Custom sled for less but still no CFI resale value. Now it depends where you are, locally here a new 2007 600 CFI sells for less than the shift. I guess it's better than the RAW chassis, pay extra for less????!

Well Wean, I'm talking RMK shift...not sure about the IQ. Most of that stuff listed you would do to a dragon anyway if you are going that far as mods are considered...I think we are talking about mountain sleds also. Tippy handling is desirable IMO. Dragons have inside wheels also BTW. Track is updated on the shift as well.

The only difference from the shift to the dragons is shocks, lack of graphics (thank you) and it's a carb'd model. They have the same guages, same seats, same tunnel, track, wheels, etc. It's shocks and graphics.

And, from what I've seen, I'm not too shy of the whole carb thing. Let's put it this way...I've seen guys spend waaaay more time tuning an EFI sled than a carb'd sled, mod for mod.

One other point...with carbs, you are into mods for new jets and you have a dang good starting point...with the Dragon you are talking $700 in controllers and starting over with tuning.

That said, I'll probaby put my turbo kit in a 700 next year. :)

Still like the good old carbs.

My thought behind all this is for a summer project pick one of these up early spring on my trip to Breckenridge CO. Not sure which route I want to go; IQ and drop a aftermarket 155 in it or just get the RMK right from the start. If I have to update the shocks anyway why not go all-out with a new skid. (I hear the EZ Ryde is pretty slick.)
Any Ideas

Side Question: Will that 600HO fit in the old edge bellypan? (2002)
