Polaris Scrambler 500 4x4 Quad?

Anybody have one of these machines? I have been looking at them on line and they seem to be very well rounded units. Right now I have an '03 Predator 500 which is a sport 2wd quad which is fast and a lot of fun, but it is also rather limited on where it can go for the type of riding we have around here.

I'm looking at getting a low hour '08 from a dealer and trading in my Predator on it.

Anybody have any experience with these particular units?

Thanks:beer;

I've had a '99 for years, they haven't changed at all really, mine runs dead even with my buddy's '07 and all mine has is a K&N filter. I really like it. The only time I feel like I need something more is at the dunes, but it still does okay there. But maybe with some sand tires and a couple mods it would be better there too.

Seen them in about every state of dismay there is. Farmer/Ranchers would pull a gooseneck trailer with them if they had a 5th wheel mount. Good units if not over used for more than their purpose. Like I mentioned, my customer base of these units do not use them for recreation or play. They fence, push cattle around and every other chore a farm demands. They beat them to death. Swear they will not buy another because of the high cost of maintanence compared to other brands.

Taken care of them and they are a great unit. Put a set of tires on that have some lug to them.

fun, fun, fun! just keep a sharp eye on swing arm and a-arm bushings, and front wheel bearings. the clutches should be gone over often as well. other than that, they are fun units and are comfortable and capable in almost any terrain.

My sister has one and the little bike impresses me they way it runs and goes through the snow. I would not mind having one myself. Good bike

I have one. I bought it in 99. I had my accident in 98. Has never left me stranded. Except a dead battery. But, it has a pull start. So I can't complain.
I also have a snow blade on the front of it. It is manauly operated but it works great. I did change the weights so it had a little more torque to push it. I also had a Raptor. I agree they are limited but this thing does it all. You can make them as fast as you want. You can put nerf bars on it FMF exhaust you name it it's all there.
thanks Jeff

Thanks for the positive input guys, I got to ride one of my friend's wife's scrambler today as she stayed home with a cold... her loss...:D

It was a little muddy, hahaha:D I can't believe where this thing took me today without even missing a beat...:eek::D:D

Well the best thing about the scrambler is they are actually 2 wheel drive. So they steer super easy. Even when you engage the 4wd button they are still 2 wd.. UNTIL the back tires spin. When they spin half a revolution they front tires kick in. Also (I love this) they are a full 4 wheel drive. You don't have to go and buy a locker diff for the front end. All 4 wheels pull or push. I can take a pic of the blade on it when I mount it up if you like.
Also as I said you can put nerf bars on them. A guy use to moto cross a 2wd scrambler he took off the floor boards and put on A/C nerf bars.

Look up HPI online. Polaris hot rod racing parts. You can also put a winch on the front. These are all round great machines. When I mount my blade to it I will take a pic and send it to you.

Well, after the test ride the other day at the lake, and all the positive replies I have received on the subject, I went ahead and picked up the one I was looking at...

Extremely low hour '08 Scrambler 500 4x4:D

It fired right up and runs really strong, no problems getting it to wheelie:eek::D

Since that is an 08 how much was it? If I may ask?

I picked it up for $4,260:eek::eek::D:D

I took it out yesterday with my dad and one of my riding buddies, then had to go back up today to get my other quad (the predator) because we got into some terrain the 2wd couldn't make it up and had to leave it overnight. Between the regular riding yesterday and the tow truck duties it had to do today, I am extremely impressed with the 4wd capability of these things... very glad I bought it:D:eek::D

I had an 02 500 4x4 and I loved it. Worked great for hunting and playing on the dunes... there are racks available for front and rear. the worst thing about the scrambler is the short fenders. I saw a guy in canada once had fender extensions available but haven't seen it for about three years now... if you find extensions get them its a mud flingin monster...

My best freind had one. The worst thing about them is that it doesn't have the hi/low range transmission for where and how we ride. Either that, or a much lower 1st gear. We tend to smoke alot of belts on the scrambler. We run alot of tight, nasty slow speed off trail ugly stuff. It is just plain geared too high for that. It is a ball to ride and handles great when on a trail or on the beach ect....in other words, where it belongs. I tried clutching it different and did find some really great setups that made it rip on the trails, but still, when in the 0-5 mph uglies, it was hard on belts. This is from a polaris guy. 3 sleds and 4 poo wheelers. They are great and no belt issues. But, the gearing on those scramblers is too much to evercome for our use.

I've had mine out about 5 times now, totally impressed... its been through some sticky mud and just kept going... so much nicer than my 2wd quad tons of fun to ride:D:D

10 minutes into our last ride.....:D
