Polaris Pro-RMk driveshaft collar bulletin

"Please notify your customers of this bulletin and repair. In addition, Polaris will mail a notification letter to all customers who have taken delivery of an affected unit on or before December 7, 2012. Included with the notification letter will be a voucher for a free gallon of VES Synthetic Oil. A copy of the customer notification can be found on page 4."

my 2008 dragon motor blow about 10x and i ad the bog issue and they never give me anything not even a excuses letter it pissed me off:brokenheart:

Just was told from a dealer that is close but not the one I bought from that I would be at the end of the list to receive one if I don't go to the dealer I purchased from.

Cut/Past from another thread.

Mountainhorse: In my opinion you should take your sled into the dealer for the new service bulletin and have the shaft inspected and the collar service done.

AND/BUT.....

While you can wait till December 24th or Jan 4th for parts to arrive at your dealer and then take your sled in for the fix... you can also still buy one of the collars from any of the reputable people that have invested hard earned money so that you can ride your sled now.

These businesses are real sledders just like you and me....Passionate about the sport and willing to put their own finances on the line.

If you've already ordered a collar kit from an aftermarket company... Please don't expect to get a refund. These companies put their own money on the line and based their production from YOUR order.

PLUS... If you ordered a collar, you will have your sled NOW to ride
AND
It will not void the warranty on your shaft.

Good luck...LETS RIDE!!
:bounce:

From POLARIS INDUSTRIES:
Please note that only the Polaris service part and installation procedure have been validated to adequately correct this condition. Any aftermarket solution should be immediately replaced by your dealer with the correct Polaris part (Drive
Shaft Collar Kit (PN 2205108). The drive shaft must be replaced if the aftermarket solution involved drilling the
drive shaft and installing rivets or the aftermarket collar damaged the drive shaft. If the drive shaft requires replacement because of aftermarket solution damage, we will replace your drive shaft at no cost to you.

I encourage people to spend their money any way they see fit, so long as they know everything up front. I just want people to know that any collar they might buy will be irrelevant in days.

so they change the drive shaft to save a little weight and then had to add a clamp that makes it heavier than the 11/12 shaft? awesome...

i hope the 13 shaft was also less expensive for them to build than the 11/12? of course that is irreverent now that they have to give everyone clamps...

I bet the gallon of synthetic oil cost more than they paid for the 13 driveshafts. You can tell Polaris is in full blown damage control at this point!!!

ill tell you this was a much quicker response than the 08 Doo epedemic we were comparing this to. Also with warrantying with aftermarket we really cant complain on Polaris's repsonse. We can still complain on why it was built like this in the first place though!

Just talked to my dealer. He made it sound like he would receive approx. 75% of the clamps needed to fix the sleds he sold. With more coming in the future. He plans on starting with the first sled snowchecked from him and working down the line of snowchecks then into floor sales. I like it, I was one of the first snowchecks!

do have to hand it to polaris for the fast response. it will be interesting to see what they do next year. same drive shaft with improved qc or will it be a different shaft? or the current shaft modified?

The next one should be teflon coated like a frying pan, or have pressed on plastic non stick sleeves with a round OD. Have you noticed how much snow sticks to the aluminum. If they remove the center driver they would make up for any weight gain and then some due to the extra 8" dia. Just add extros to the two outers and call it good! Or how about this just tie the drivers together at the outer edges like Cat did with the idlers, would make for a very rigid assy. and keep the track supported all the way across if that is there intent? Are they putting collars at both ends or just the driven end? Someone must of thought about cross sectional area and entrapment in the engineering group! How about a 1.75" extruded 7075 hex bar with a 1.25/1.375 id and fine pitch threads at ea. end. Then take a shouldered turned stub shafts and thread/glue into ea. end and torque it! Or how about a one piece contour turned swaged titanium shaft that would work! Or just replace the steel piece with a titanium stub shaft to save a little more weight, at least it won't rust!

Polaris driveshaft recall

Don't worry I'm not here to bash on the 13 and the driveshaft I have one myself lol! I got a call from my dealer yesterday saying polaris is sending out collars they have made for the driveshaft and mine needs to come in next weekend has anyone else had a call like this? If so please reply thanks!

Looks like the strongest of the clamp fixes too. 25ftlbs of torque on the bolts. That's a big bolt!

I can't believe the complaints. Thanks Poo. You just made me feel like you care about my passion.

There is a few threads on this already, in the drive train section at the top. Should find out everything you want to know, by going through those.

Might hold things together till warranty is up.... I dont belive you can have two metal pieces not bonded together can be held together with a glorified hose clamp....
lots of force on the driven end and on one bearing( lever ).... this fix would be fine if the driven end was a shaft with two fixed bearings, then it would only have to hold twisting force.
A huge load like landing off a jump on the gas and I'm sure the run-out on the bottom pulley will be way out , once this happens a few hundred times,, then what?
I sorta find it funny people are happy to see this crap, mother polaris copied a little aftermarket fix to limp there junk till they come up with a real fix???

I'm racing to the dealer to get a new 13 today after hearing this!! hahahahahahaha bet the clamp sells lots of sleds, for them!!!
