Polaris Junk !

Sincere question....
Was your friend aware that there were issues and did he have one of the many collars available installed?....assuming his dealer didn't have them yet?
There is no good excuse for what is happening, but there are ways to increase the odds of not being stranded....it sucks, but it's much cheaper and easier than a heli ride.

no, this type of thread is not helpful in any way. it is simply ranting by someone with a pre-formed opinion. there is clearly an issue with the drive shaft/drive belt but they are exaggerated on the internet. the forums make it sound like every 13 is exploding shafts and belts, what you rarely hear is the vast majority of them without issue. now, this is not to take away anything from those who have legit issues but at this point i still don't feel it is a design issue. that doesn't explain all the sleds with hundreds of miles on them. clearly there is something different between those blowing shafts and belts within a couple of miles and those with hundreds of hard miles on their sleds. my guess is it is a tolerance issue with the glued/pressed drive shaft. that at least is a logical/feasible explanation for the problem. i do also believe the break in is more important on these drive belts than it was for the chains. which leads to my next question which can be found in another thread in this section...

but this thread.... pretty much useless. again, it wasn't even his sled, nor does he even own a polaris. the way it was approached and the way it was handled pretty much tells you all you need to know. nothing more than a rant, not really helpful in any way. thanks for the documentation of the failure, but beyond that...

The day moderators start deciding what information should be made available to the members of this forum is the day I walk away. I'm on here to gain knowledge about sleds because thats what I enjoy. Some people say delete this garbage, or this guy is just ranting so you shouldn't consider his opinion valid. What I'm hearing is I'm intelligent enough to form an opinion but the rest of you aren't. Really? Actually I think I am smart enough to form my own opinion, in my world I am very comfortable cruising through threads on this forum and deciding for myself what is relevant to me and what isn't. I think alot of other people are also. I wouldn't like to think that any moderator on this site would consider for one second of deleting a thread like this. OK theres my rant, should I be deleted? Should I be called a hater?

summitboy, tell your friend to read his mail as Poo sent a mailer addressing this issue AND its been all over SW. Poo has stepped in a much better way than Doo did back in 08 with their shaft issue. I got free gallon of oil, an installed collar, and no flack at ALL about having aftermarket collars installed. They even offered to replace my driveshaft for free if i'd drilled, screwed, or riveted it. Is there is problem? YES. Is Poo stepping up, YES. I'm disappointed about stuff breaking (belt drive included), but i've been super impressed with Poo's proactive attitude towards fixing it.

PS. I'm the least brand loyal person on earth, so no Poo love here. Just the facts, jack.

Things to ponder.

You say hater ! I laugh. FYI my best friend was riding this bucket
of bolts when the driveshaft was ejected from the vehicle. His
friend spent good money on a machine that was supposed to do
what it was advertised to do. It didnt !

Big company like Polaris basically tells him dont bother us until
you have a problem. 1000 dollar heli ride later Polaris customers
gets a fix. So now he gets told this is the way it is.

Your telling us its not that big of a problem. I say people should
be warned and Polaris deserves a little wake up. You now say its
not fair and heaven forbid someone speaks their mind.
Now you wish to do what Polaris does. Surpress away Moderator !

Truth hurts sometimes

PS. Saw 5 Pros come off the mountain the other
day on a long heli line !

First off, I feel for anyone that has a problem with their new sled…weather it’s red/yellow/blue/green.

Good that your friend was able to get his sled off the mountain.
In my area…. We don’t have the ability to get a sky-lift.

I work hard on here as a moderator to help people.
I put in a fair amount of my own time, as a Volunteer, with no compensation from Harris publications, this forum
or any other source. So I take exception to your “suppress away” comment … Never has been nor ever will be any
part of my SOP.

Besides… I’d have to do a whole lot more “suppressing” than just this little thread to sweep this one under a rug. :face-icon-small-win

Why did he ride with no update collar on the shaft? Especially when the information about the shaft issue is so readily
available. There are quite a few shaft collars available that are less expensive than the heli ride out?

Curious why you didn’t ask your friend or your friend riding the other friends sled if he had installed the
update-collar that you read about in these forums back on the first of this month or other threads
you’ve read about broken driveshafts.

The truth never hurts…only helps IMO…. But you have to admit, the title of your thread IS Inflammatory
at best.

Rubbing fellow sledders noses in it... since all owner of 2013 that dothis forum ARE aware of this...
IMO, that Does hurt/offend. :face-icon-small-sho (I'll assume that was not your intent here)

Polaris HAS told the customers with the sleds that there is a serious need to install the collars and not to ride
the sled until the collar is installed.

Polaris Industries in Svc bulletin #S-12-05:
NOTE:
The MY13 PRO-RMK Drive Shaft Collar Kit (PN 2205108) MUST be installed on all MY13 bonded drive
shafts with the part number 1590508. This includes drive shafts on vehicles and service parts inventory at,
or in transit to, your dealership.
The “Big company like Polaris” HAS said, in writing, that there is a problem and that it should be addressed.
These warnings were given to every dealer that sold even one 2013 PRO RMK and a letter was sent out to every
owner in the beginning of December.

Do I believe that the Aluminum driveshafts on 2013 Pro RMK’s are failing in significant numbers… YES, without a doubt.
In a perfect world, should an update be required on a new sled…Certainly not, but we don’t live in a perfect world,
regardless of the sled brand you choose to drive.

This is another good example why people should heed the countless warnings and examples that have been
posted on this site and many others concerning the potential driveshaft issues on this sled...and take measures
to prevent this from happening in their own situation, whatever that is.

If you don’t have a collar on your driveshaft… because your dealer does not have one yet, you’re not able to
get to the dealer to have it installed, or simply feel like you shouldn’t have one on your sled… just do it.

OR…. buy one of the collars that are readily available from many different sources if you fall into the category
of people that have not been able to get the factory update yet. Arguing that you should not have to pay for a collar
is a much smaller dollar amount than arguing that you should not have had to pay for a heli lift
or 10 friends on a 2-day land-extraction session.

Summitboy: Your telling us its not that big of a problem. I say people should be warned and
Polaris deserves a little wake up. You now say its not fair and heaven forbid someone speaks their mind.
There is a reason that I did not delete this thread... I think it is best to talk about the nature of these posts in the open and
let the readers make up their own minds about them... Even though most forums from like DT, TY, S&M etc would have
deleted them instantly.

By just looking around at the literally dozens of threads on this forum, and more on other sites…
I think it would be a stretch to say that the ANYONE is saying that it is not a serious issue. Also, in reading the
same dozens-of-threads here our readers have certainly spoken their mind openly about this issue….
Nothing “fair” or “unfair” about it.

I think it WOULD be “fair” to say that Polaris has received a wake up call on this problem a long time ago.

I work VERY hard to try and keep an Even-Keel on threads here and look at things from many different perspectives.
It is difficult for me to see that you are trying to be helpful, but I admit that that may a shortfall of MY understanding.

If your intentions of posting this thread, with the title that you chose, were done in good faith, with the intent
of helping out fellow readers… Then I sincerely applaud your efforts

If otherwise… well…. :face-icon-small-dis

X100.......You all should be start enough to filter the BS on here, censorship is for socialist...........DON'T FEED THE TROLL :yo:

To be fair....Censorship has been the policy of all political paradigms since the dawn of man
....but was very well refined by people like Mao Tse-Tung and John Edgar Hoover.

So it seems that censorship is for Capitalists and Socialists alike!!

There is a difference between censorship and good common sense.

EG...You're at a family party and some boyfriend DB calls your daughter a whore in front of everyone there.
Should you say to your daughter... "He has the right to exercise his right to speak without censorship honey"..
OR... Escort him out the door on his ear?
HMMM?

Common-sense when posting wins out every time in my book... but I guess that is more a topic for the fouled-plug section.

Hey... Everybody... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Summitboy... It stinks that your friends driveshaft broke... and left him stranded ..... Which is the most important thing that I left out of my reply....
He paid for the best machine that Polaris makes.. and it let him down....plain and simple.
And that sux for anyone in that situation.

broken shafts

when you buy a new sled you take your chances you know there is issues with every new sled the question is are they gonna stand behind their product i think polaris is on it what more can you do other than that its an awesome sled

My driveshaft broke on the weekend as well. Same thing, no warning and easy riding. Only 150 miles on the sled, i was doing about 40 mph when it let go and the track locked up solid and sent me over the bars. I received the letter in the mail for the recall 3 days earlier, but because of the holiday season i didnt get it in to be fixed. Love my polaris products, but this was definitely an eye opener. Hopefully it wont take a month to get a shaft and have it fixed, but its one of those things. Out of my control.

just another Ski-Doo guy sticking his nose into something that should be left to Polaris owners. My 2012 is rock solid. The 2013 driveshaft is an issue, but is being addressed. Does it suck? Yup, but it is far from a 700 pound piece of SkiDoo crap......maybe I should post that in the SkiDoo forum since I don't own a SkiDoo and only know they're heavy cause I have to keep helping guys/friends who own them dig them out of the snow.

sledwrek has the right attitude.....crap happens, fix it, get back on the bus.
