Polaris Indy 440 clutch problems

Hello everybody. I supposedly have a 1994 Polaris Indy 440 that I recently got from a friend. I noticed there was an XC600 clutch on it, but he said the previous owner put it on. I am only concerned because all polaris sleds I've seen use a keyhole to mesh the secondary clutch to the jackshaft. This sled however, uses splines. Does anybody know what polaris sleds use this spline system? The chassis is definitely the 90's air cooled wedge style w/ xtra 10 suspension. The jackshaft is definitely original too, there are no signs of replacement. Help is much appreciated.

Polaris went from a keyed jackshaft to a splined one in the mid 2000's?? not sure of the exact time but all have been splined for some time now. I don't see it being a problem for you, just use the appropriate helix/spring combo for your 440.

That's what I was going to do if I couldn't find the right clutch. It just seems weird though that the 94 has the splines if you say the mid 2000's started using them.

My '94 Indy Lite uses a splined shaft on the secondary. My '93 440 SKS, 1999 700 RMK, 2004 600 RMK, 2005 700 RMK all used the smooth shaft with the square key. My 2010 600 RMK now uses the splined shafts again.

As long as the spring/helix is matched to the 440 you should be fine.
