Polaris ATV tech help???

My father in law has an Xplorer 300 98.

It just seized on him and I want to help him fix it. I can wrench around pretty good and already spec'd out parts for a new top end. Assuming that is all it needs. Will have to inspect first.

Any BIG pointers I should be aware of?? Any of you out there torn down a polaris ATV and can provide pointers?:D

I have done several. That one should be pretty simple. It's air cooled so no coolant to drain. You should be able to lift the cylinder with the motor still in the chassis. Pull the front cab and gas tank. Disconnect the exhaust and carb. Remove the head and cylinder. Stuff a rag down in the case to keep it clean and prevent the circlip from getting swallowed up. Pop the circlip out of the wrist pin and push out the pin to remove the piston.
Clean up the gasket surfaces and assemble in reverse.
Lindsay Machine can bore your cylinder and get you a Wiesco piston.

Now the hard part, find out why she siezed. Too lean? Not getting oil? Treat it like a sled and run premix on the first tank of fuel.
