Polaris 115 Belt - Cord Tearing

Hey guys,

Rode my 12 Pro this weekend for this first time and put on ~35 hard miles.

When I got home I noticed that there is some cord starting to tear out of the outside edge of the belt (when looking at the belt with the side cover off you can see it pretty obviously).

I tried trimming it off the best I could with a knife, but what's the best way to try and repair the belt to make it last the longest?

Thanks for any advice...
 
Depending on how much string was pulled, the best way to quick fix is use a small pair of flushcuts and try to cut it back far enough that the sheeves don't pinch again.

If this happened on your 1st ride, the the belt was probably not broken in right. And or clutching the needing attention, too.

I'd clean the engine compartment and clutches, scrub the belt, and run it again.
 
I had the same issue, come to find out my motor mounts weren't adjusted properly. That was on my 2011 last year. Good luck hope its an easy fix.
 
You should check out the alignment and mounts like mentioned above then I would have the dealer warranty the belt and start over with a good break in.
 
How do you know if your mounts are adjusted properly?

I had to pull my 2 mag side ones out to get the recoil off, and i just put loctite on them then put the bolts back in...

How can we check these things at home because the dealer I would take the sled to is about 250 miles away...
 
A belt that fails like that is usually due to improper break in. Polaris will also not warranty a belt with this type of failure.

Tracks and I noticed alot of snow in the exhaust side behind the panel. Only makes sense that the snow is getting into the clutch side. Maybe that is part of the problem. I broke this belt in just like all my others....WFO. This is the only 115 belt I have ever seen pull a cord.

We saw this happening last year.
we had three pro's 2 163's and one 155.
one 163, had 78 miles started to delaminate. belt Blewup @ 105 miles.
the 155 had 45 miles when he burned his belt, playing in a meadow.
mine has 400 miles on the original belt. With footwell vents from mile
25 on it.
the first 163 now has over 600 miles on his second belt.
I just received A PM from some one who only got 25 miles on his new 12 pro,
berfore burning belt!

I am picking up a set of footwell vents from Boston Racing this week and installing them this weekend...

I cannot afford to by $175 belts every 100 miles or so.

I sure hope they work and that's my issue...I am betting it is because there was a poop load (technical term) of snow packed in behind my hps can all weekend, yet the clutch side was bone dry...

Common sense tells me that snow was indeed getting into the clutch side as well, it's just that the clutch heat was melting that snow...but nonetheless, snow had to be contacting the clutches all weeked!

I am guessing this is what was causing me to see a black line on my primary clutch when looking it over after riding this weekend (belt slippage)?
 
Improper break in is the leading cause of belt failures. I broke my belt in easy for first 75 miles or so and now I have over 700 miles on the original belt and its in great shape.

I don't doubt that snow is making it's way in the clutch side, I just can't see the clutch side being hotter than the can side. I did have snow in the can side as well, no belt problems yet though.
 
How does snow on the clutches coming in from the footwell burn a belt?? Seems like it may slip a little, but burn it....? That's all the footwell vents prevent correct? Just wondering if I need some or not.
 
Cant say i have ever broke in a belt ive never had a problem, most likely is bad clutching for your type of riding and poor alignment. Nothing makes a belt last longer then a good clutch setup and perfect alignment, i dont runn venting anymore with a good clutch setup just need a lil air flowing through is enough.
 
Definately got to be snow getting in. Chasing me up a hill WFO with 3 miles on the machine had nothing to do with it...
