Pods

Why would you put pods on a 600?
They don't even really work on a modded 800.

Wow, you really don't like pods.

AkSledHed, First off pods do work, but Im not sure how well they will work with the 600sdi, and I don't know the part number. Sorry I couldn't help!

Im no expert on pods by any means but from all the threads i have read on them, i wouldnt waste my time. bout half say they dont decrease power and half say they do. not very many people say they helped emensly my opinion is dont bother.

Ok go ride in 4 feet of powder throw that girl on her left side...Then go put some pods on and tell me you dont see a gain...People talkn about "heat" I dont get it your ave day will be 30 or colder and your tellin me a under hood temp of about 60 is goin to raise the temp so you will lose power...huh got me. I have never seen the temp under my hood hotter then this. As for stock I dont think it wil help much other then in deep snow. On a mod you WILL see a diff those that say no just dont take the time to tune it all the way in. As for the filters look at k&n they make a sh#t load of them and a way better filter in my opinion. Im running the 2520's with snow perfilters on an 860 07 xrs.

So your telling me pods don't work? I've read countless stories about people having issues with belt dust being sucked into their air intakes and screwing up their motors. I wasn't planning on adding the pods to gain more power or torque, i'm concerned about the belt dust ruining my motor. I've added the floating secondary to it which should help, anything else I can do to keep the belt dust down?

The stock airbox draws outside air (no belt dust)....any holes/seems in the plunum/box should be taped up so no belt dust can be drawn in if it is a concern. IMO the box is better as long as you add enough additional intake area (SLP intake etc...) so plugging in the deep isn't a problem. Underhood temps can be quite high, especially behind the engine and next to the clutches and there is little air movement, especially at low speeds in the deep when you need it most.
Injection and pods is probably a better setup than carbs and pods because you are not relying on airflow to draw fuel....and with pods you lose some of the venturi effect that carbs rely on to draw fuel....and with less signal you generally need to jet bigger with pods. JMHO- :beer;

I have thought about pods but want to keep the inner airbox for the velocity effect it has. My buddy came up with the idea of leaving the inner air box, taking out the outer air box, and adding vents where the old box was (which I already did). Then stick a K&N into the inner box and it should draw plenty of cold air, no belt dust, never plug and should have good velocity.

Something I'm going to work on this week.

Pods are garbage unless you’re looking for an excuse to put out some dollars for shinny new cylinders & pistons. Trust me I learned the expensive way. Just my two cents

I would have to disagree with pods not working. I have them on my sled and noticed an increase in throttle response and a huge improvement in deep snow. When my other buddies sleds are bogging ever so slightly on those deep days I've never had a bog issue. With the right amount of venting you don't have to worry about sucking in hot air and in deep snow you don't have to worry about any bogging issues. Also there is a weight reduction. Don't see any disadvantage to running pods.

A pod with a prefilter i find it hard to believe that the "dust" will be a factor. If it Is must be doing something wrong...k&n with prefilter and had and seen friends sleds with over 3000 miles running pods...huh we just must be lucky..:confused:

I was saying that without the PODS, I had heard stories about belt dust getting sucked into the engine and was wanting to know if adding the PODS would prevent it.

Belt dust ingestion is a major problem with the RT's with the stock air box. Guys are putting pods with pre-filters on them to prevent this issue. Pods and pre-filters will help keep belt dust out, but you need to keep the filters clean. It's not as big of an issue with the 800 though.

What about with the 600 HO SDI? I looked at my airbox and it seems to be sealed up well enough to prevent any belt dust from getting inside the motor. I think i'll just leave it the way it is.

Pods mean you dont have to screw with a junk airbox on the side of the trail when your POS stock reed boots tear, plus with the venting that you should have plus decent clutching that wont make a lot of dust if any. Pods work fine on many sleds, especially mountain cats and im gonna say revs..

That being said, i wouldnt doo it on your SDI... .02
