Plug wires

I've been talking about failed plug wires for some time now. I change mine every other year.
When I mention them, I get very mixed answers.
Gregg sent me a picture tonight of what he found. Check your plug wires and caps. The spark will jump the break, but your sled will not run at peak performance.

Even the SLP Kit (that they source from MSD) is sub-par. Even with the hokey clips the caps can come off.

You're better off just going to the parts store and picking up the good NGK caps (they fit far tighter than the MSD / SLP caps) and some solid core 7mm plug wire and make your own kit. Also far cheaper as a bonus.

This tip was posted a few days ago by "Geo" in another thread.

FWIW; If someone wants any SLP plug wire kits, I have 6 new in package.

LH.... Could you post up a "how to" thread with pics for our other members on replacing the wires on Polaris sleds.... I'm sure lots of peeps would find it helpful.

Have a 14 pro. Looks like the wires are glued into the coil. How much damage will i do trying to dig out the wire and glue?

Tony...No worries about RMI/EMI messing with the ECU with the solid core wires?

I've not cut into a recently made stock plug wire... cant tell from your photo..

Heck... I've had the same roll of Packard 7mm on the shelf for 20 years now.... never thought it would be compatible with the CFi sleds.

Eric,
No issues to date, use OEM caps(best replacement found) and resistor plugs. My choice are BR9EYA.

As to the OEM caps? The Nichiwa LB05EMK that came on the PRO's or the NGK TB05EMA that came on the IQ's and Dragons?

If you looked inside the cap you could see trails from the charge running down the outside of the plug.

Im sure you know this..... But for others reading, this is called carbon tracking. The spark will etch a carbon track into the spark plug and the cap. If you ever see this on any motor vehicle, you need to replace the spark plug AND the cap/wire/boot at the same time. Replacing only one or the other will end in the same results. Eric
