Plug Wires

Hi Guys,

Just looking for opinions on my 'hiccup' this weekend.

2014 ProRMK 800 1900 miles, had the oil turned up from day 1, added extra oil since day 1.....has not skipped a beat in 1900 miles. Been running the Bosch Iridium plugs for the last 500 miles. Always run 91octane on the 91 setting.

This weekend in Revy using 94 Octane, on day 3 (ran perfect first 2) the sled bogs at the top of a pull.....try again and it bogs again. Pull plugs and they look whitish and one 'nipple' has pulled off the top (its stripped and wouldn't come out with the plug). Get the end out, put my old plugs in (kept as spares), notice a bit of wobble in the plug boots.

Put sled in Eth mode (thinking maybe 94 has something to do with whitish plugs).....starts up runs fine pulls fine for the rest of the day.

I will inspect the cylinders to make sure there is no scoring, replace plug wires and boots (looking at SLP), replace plugs (looking at TRS recommended BR9EYA).

I'm thinking the bog was combination plug wire/94 octane?? but don't see why the plugs would look lean....

Sorry for the long post.....Any ideas??

Oil added to fuel does lean the A/F ratio. Could octane have been too high for the altitude with whatever head you were running, and a % of fuel ignited too late, a longer 'flame front', etc., giving the look of lean but without the heat - dunno.

My personal experience with more oil (oiler turned up and "pre-mix" combined) and iridiums in the CFI-2 has been - iridiums foul. Within 500 miles or so. Went back to NGKs, never fouled another. There are others who have experienced the same. Obviously, opposite of the plugs you pulled out of the heads.

i agree with your post except that adding oil to you fuel does lean out you fuel mixture slightly. because only so much fluid goes though the injector if more of that fluid is oil you are leaner. just sayin. to the op you should be okay just replacing the boots , they are readily available from you local part supplier. juswt trim the wire back a little and you should be fine with the existing wires .

Thanks Guys.....

Hoping its just the combination of those few things.

Going to compression test and peek inside to be sure....new wires, plugs and reduce my oil added a bit.

Will post up if it acts up again....

94 Octane in BC is highly oxygenated...highly recommend you use 91 octane.

We had issues about 12 years ago with the 94.

Looks like with the rest of your post you're doing the right things.

These sleds are hard on Plug wires/boots. If you continue having issues, highly recommend SLP replacements.

Second the thoughts on Chevron 94.

If you getting the SLP stuff I suggest buying the funky plug cap retainer thingy's. Had an issue with my red ones. If your near Kamloops, PM me. I'll give them to you.

Or, save yourself a bit and hit NAPA, Lordco or your regular auto store and pick up pair of black NGK caps (they fit "tighter"? really) and a couple of feet of solid core 7mm plug wire.
Seems if it says "snowmobile" somewhere on the package it is at least twice the price because of the extra printing required.
