Keep hearing about how great OVSs "tial garrett" is. Is this just a particular type of setup? Obviously uses the same turbo, so what is the difference?

Thanks

turbine houseing is different and external tial wastegate.

To be more exact: the exhaust housing is made from cast stainless steel and it has a v-band to fit it to the pipe. Its also lighter and stonger. All Tial exhaust housings must use external wastegate.

I do not know if the housing itself flows more than a t25 or t3....

Tial sweetness!!!

I think the turbine housing is more designed for one purpose... To get exhaust through the turbine wheel and out... You can see that it's more efficient just by looking at it... And the external wastegate is way more accurate... As soon as I saw the OVS external wastegate pipeing/ design I had to have it... It's so clean and simple.

My kits in the mail... Man I'm gonna have some short nails by the time it gets here... I hope it's as good as all the hype!! Can't wait to write a thread and tell you guy's how it is!!!

yes. sorry I just did not feel like takeing a long time to explain it. The 2871 and tial houseing on my xp only weighs 10lbs 2oz. I do not have a standard garrett just like it to weigh, but have ben told over 15lbs. the houseing flows more eficiantly. the whole exhaust flow in general is much better through the tial turbine houseing and the external wastegate then through the standard garrett cast housing and internal gate setup. You could improve the standard garrett exhaust flow a little by putting a divoriced wastegate on the standard garrett houseing. This is the only one I could find with a quick search. the turbine and internal gate are seperated and then combined later on for smoother exhaust flow.

The external gate is much more accurate, better sealing, and much quicker reacting then the internal gate. Quicker spool up and better control.
Here is a pic of the setup on my xp. More pics and info of my sled in turbo ski doo forum.

the lack of informative posts on this forum is getting old…..:face-icon-small-dis

The turbo in question has no internal exhaust gas bypass (waste gate) around the turbine wheel, you must install a external bleed to do this work. I cant imagine any noticeable difference on lower boost or any M8 for that matter. The external waste gate these guys are using simply flows a larger volume of air and should close and open quicker….larger bore applications pushing more boost should see a nice advantage to this setup. And you cant take a compressor/turbine perf. map to the hill, nor a dyno.....ride em and judge for yourelf
