04 rmk ,It has one long crack on the fuel cap neck, looks like its cracked on the seem ? looks like an easy weld. Anyone fixed this before and what welder is the best.
I know there has been post about plastic welding before but just seeing if there is anything new around for this sort of repair. All advice welcome. I've looked at about 3 different types, its a bit confusing with all pros and cons, just looking for a simple easy to use system, aren't we all!

Check out urethanesupply.com They have nice airless easy to use plastic welders. A buddy of mine has one, we use it a lot. There or some other plastic welders on EBAY. The one from Urethane Supply can be used with all types of plastics, no limits like some. Happy hunting.

Might want to check the ... blah, click this

Can probably get it done for free...

my 900's in the same boat, fuel filler neck cracks. Noticed it last season, ran across that recall early this summer.

From my experience welding fenders and such, if you don't have the right kind of plastic rod for the plastic you are welding, it doesn't matter how good your welder is.
The rod we had would only weld honda and some other plastics. Different plastics it would not hold.
On some I would have to "trim" the plastics and make my own rod out of the trimmed pieces to get it to bond.

Ive heard thats the case when plastic welding, i have an old tank laying around so the material match shouldnt be a problem, the main thing is to go hot air welder or the stick welder?

i know a dude who works with plastics, molding and welding and such....he says the correct formula of whatever goes in plastic needed to match...or it wont work well

You can buy the different kinds of plastic rod you need from Urethane Supply CO. They have stuff for sleds, ATVs, automotive, etc... We have had very good luck with thier stuff.

plastic welder

dont buy a plastic welder.Just melt it together with a flat blade soider iron.

try some material you think will work and weld a small piece on with some material to pull on. let it cool and then try to pull it off. if it comes off easy you'll know it's the wrong type of welding material.

Recall

Get ahold of your local Polaris dealer with your vin # and I am sure there is a warranty recall on this. You should get a New one from Poo. My Bro inported a sled form Montana to Canada last fall and his was broken. Dealer got him a new one under warranty. It is all up to your dealer if they will take the time for you. L8r

This was definatly a poo recall. As long as nobody has used your vin to get it done then your good new tank on the way. Some time people have used the vin for a mod sled or something though so if bought used you might be in trouble.
