Does anyone ride in this area and if so is it good ? Can anyone tell me about this area ? Where to go, etc.

Get in touch with the boys at Sun Sports in Gunnison. Lots of riding in that country.

Just hook up with Bill Harmon and follow him around for a day if you want to see the out of the way places. Warning though, a lot of guys only ride with him
once.

Steep Country

I elk hunt out of White Pine, the country around pitkin to the south is steep and high avy country imo! Ride safe.

Is Bill back in town this winter?

Seems like we rode with him at least twice eh?

I have been riding with Bill for 15 years, so I am the oddball.
Bill is living in Montrose but still owns his place in Pitkin,
so he does stay and ride there some of the time.

Maybe BrokenbackDoo will be my new name.
Still a ways off to do any sledding.

OK, I fess up. My first post was bogus. I probably know the Pitkin area better than most people. I was just seeing what guys would say about the area. Bill actually put Judy in Olathe, which is 5 miles or so North of Montrose on 50. I have ridden with Bill enough to know that Backcat is correct, most only once, the guy is bizarre to say the least. I can take you places in that area that most people have NEVER gone to before. It is without a doubt a high Avy area in many places but the riding is great, sometimes too great.

BackCat, I don't think you want to be known as BrokenBack. That is too much like BrokeBack Mountain. Squeel like a Pig. :face-icon-small-hap

Yes, the missing "N" makes a big difference.

But I doo need a new name, back2cat was when I was riding an M7 and I went back to a Summit 2008.

It was in reference to breaking my back in 2 places and 4 ribs just over a month ago.

Old Bill is harmless, ridden with him a couple of times.. Did he move his "shops" also, I thought the last time I drove by his place there was something missing..

I have not been out since last Summer, are the 2 metal shipping containers still there? Do you know his old wood building burnt down a while back?

Looked like they were gone, can't see Bill not having a fully decked out machine shop no matter where he's at but knowing Bill he probably built up a totally new one.....
