Pitfalls when long tracking a REV

I need to long track my 2004 144" to a 151" or longer. Can anyone offer ideas or things to avoid when making the switch. Can I reuse my rails and add an extension or should I look for new? Should I look for a longer tunnel from a wreck or go with the extension? I have looked at the VE stuff and it is nice but a bit spendy. I also need parts so any one with a track, tunnel ect, shoot me a pm.

Thanks

if you are looking to do it on a budget, a rail extension would work fine. i believe the only downfall would be it weighs i bit more than a longer rail. for the tunnel extension you could get one from doo for a 151. just drill or grind off the rivets at the existing extension and rivet the new one on. they are like $40 or so.

Try to find an offset axle kit and run larger wheels. That is what I did but that was a few years ago. I can't even find the receipts from the company that made the kit. SLP has a tunnel extension that just rivets on so you wouldn't need a new tunnel.

I just finished doing this to mine. I went with the rail extentions and did nothing to the tunnel. I did put a strap from the flap to the rear grab bar, but it was more of a precaution than a nessesity. I have not had a chance to try it out yet. Good luck with your project.

thats true, the track will only be 3" longer in the back. there should be more than enough tunnel. i did this with my renegade. didn't put a tunnel extension on and am running a 144".

Last season we put a 151 on my dads 144. All you need is the rail extention. No drivers or tunnel extention, it clears everything (as long as its 2 inch paddles). Oh and a bottle of chain case oil.

I have a 04 rev 144" that I lenthed to a 162" two years ago and the only thing that I didnt do was put a tunnel extension on. It likes to heat up pretty quick on the hard pack, but over 8" of powder it is just fine. The end of the track is 8-10" past the end of the tunnel, so the snow just flys up in the air. Know a couple people that put a tunnel extension on and didnt mess with the heat exchanger and it runs normal water temps. Other then that it should only take 45 min to swap a track.... well i guess i have done 10 or so. Pretty easy though

What if I jump to a 154 or 159, I assume new rails would be in order and as long as its a 2" track the drivers should be fine. Does anyone know the size and pitch of a 2004 800rev summit x with a 144" track? I think the longest track offered in 04 was 151.

I swapped out my 151 for a 159 last year. I just moved my skid back about 1" and ran a 9" wheels and an off-set two wheel kit - no tunnel extention or rail extensions - worked great. Your stock drivers should be 2.52 so as long as you stay with the same pitch track and 2" lug you won't have to change drivers, unless you want to run a 2.5" lug which opens a whole new can of worms. I got sold on a Polaris series 4 track - don't doo it - too soft and burns up sliders big time - stick with the Camoplast Challenger. Larger billet wheels look real killer too.

144 to 163

I went from 144 to 163. Van Amburg tunnel extension, 8 tooth 440 race drivers, and a clutch kit from Big John.
