pistons

rebuilding a 2016 800 and noticed that the piston part numbers are different between the 16 and the 17-18. the newer ones are way more money also. anyone know the difference ?
is there any reason why the newer part number can't be used in the 16? the cylinder part numbers are the same. i talked to a couple different dealers and they have no answers for me.

Best pistons are from the 2015 pro rmk. (Yes they fit and work great)

also cheaper.

oil grooves on exhaust side on newer pistons. I used a set of spi last year and they worked great. I took a chance and was happy. Forget about ball hones and such, leave it nice and smooth. Also check ring end gap, I had to sand a couple rings down. The spi pistons had the oil grooves on both sides.

spi even has different part #'s for 16, 17-18. says the newer ones are anodized. 10 bucks per piston more. i would like to know why they have different pistons between the 16's and the 17-18's. from what i gather dimensionally the pistons are the same from 2008 until current.
