Pipe burned coolant reservoir!

Alright, PLEASE tell me i'm not the only one this happened to! The sled is new to me, I just got back from Montana and the trip went good. I noticed the coolant was low when I got back and it appears the pipe is too close to the coolant reservoir. The sled had SLP duals when I bought it, I didn't want to use them so I bought a used factory pipe, PART#1712-236, a bikeman y pipe and bikeman can. The factory pipe number is the old one, the new revised part is 1712-118. Did they change the geometry so that is moved further from the reservoir? pic 5 is where the pipe sits, 6 i moved the pipe for a closeup. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Looks like the pipe flexed back and hit the bottle. Can you bend/adjust the BMP can to allow more clearance for the pipe? Or in my opinion just put the twins back on :)

On the 1000 they have a aluminum guard for the reservoir.

Mine did the same thing on my 06 M7. I tried the Skinz super Q can and it repositioned my pipe back toward the coolant bottle enough that my pipe melted my bottle and plastic holder.....The stock can positions the pipe forward away from the bottle enough that there is more clearance. I see there is a bottle "shield" from the factory on the 2007 and newer sleds.......I was going to buy one for my M7, around $25.00 when I checked.

I found that factory shield, I think I will try buying it and taking bam's advice and try to bend the bikeman mounting forward some. Thanks for the help:face-icon-small-hap

The twins will melt the coolant resivoir too. Get the 07 or 08 resevoir and the shield. The cap on the stock resevoir distorts the plastic and wont seal properly and wont let the system presurize. Overheating and coolant loss will plague you.

the newer cats have a heat shield around the coolant bottle. You might want to look into getting one and that should take care of your problem.

I just heat taped the bottle. No issues. I'm using a stock pipe with the Skinz UltraQ can. The mounting system for the can is piss poor and allows too much movement, IMHO.

Thanks for the help guys. If I buy the newer bottle (w/ the shield) i am assuming it will fit properly thinking of the mounting bracket and coolant hose.
