I'm thinking about buying a pipe and tube bender. I only need to bend done to 1/2 probably not anymore than 2". I won't use it a lot so i don't want to spend the money on one from like protools.com. Has anyone used one from Northerntool? They have a 12ton one i have my eyes on some people have reviewed them and liked them. My first project would be a bumper for my quad made out of 1 1/2 .120 tube. Any info would be great.

be careful when talking pipe vs. tubing.

Pipe is measured in ID I believe, Tubing is measured in OD. I don't think you can use a pipe bender for tubing.

As for benders, you get what you pay for. I have a JD2, but no dies yet ha ha. The manual benders (like the pro-tools and the JD2) say that they won't bend less then 0.053" for 1" tubing without kinking. So you need to know your limits and what you are going to use it for.

I haven't used the northern one, but if it is like the harbor freight models, I have heard some people all those kinkers.. lol. 2" OD tubing will be pretty stout stuff if you are using thicker tubing. I think the JD2 Model 3's (base model) top out at 2" and 1/4" thickness.

Checked out the site and you are right, the reviews do look good. I would check out metal fab sites like pirate 4x4 for more information.

edit. Did some checking and for using pipe they work pretty good I guess. Some guys have to pack sand it it to get the bends to not flatten out though.
