Pick up new sled tomorrow!!

I pick up a 2008 Summit 800 tomorrow morning!!
It's still snowing in the mountains here and is supposed to most of the weekend! So a Sledding I will go. Tomorrow afternoon/evening and Sunday morning!!

Now mind you, for some it's no big deal. However, I'm moving from a 1994 Indy Trail to a Summit 800!!!!:eek::D:D:D:D:beer;

I know I know I'll be carefull!!

I'm moving from a 02 SummitX to a XP154" Saturday morning. I've seen prices around $8600 to $8700, at the places that have sleds left. Hopefully be riding Sunday.

Dude, you are in for an epic experience. Sh!t has changed since 1994! Word of advice, stay away from any trees, rocks or big hills for the 1st half a day or so........;)

Have fun and try not to wreck anything..........:beer;

Good advice and thats the plan!!!

Don't fight it!!

I went from a 1998 Summit X to a 2005 Summit X this year. I spent the first day trying to ride the Rev like an S-chassis and had a heck of a time. Next day I kinda started from scratch as far as how to ride the Rev and by the end of the day I was getting comfortable, now it just seems strange to ride the S and ZX sleds.

Ok, here is my first impression................................:face-icon-small-sho

The thing is a MONSTER!! I took it easy to break in the belt and the motor.
I did what Idaho Slim suggested.
About 40 miles of mostly trail and power line riding up on Stampede Pass.

Talked to a guy in the parking area. Told him that this was going to be my
1st ride on the 800 coming from a 94 Indy Trail 488. :eek: The 1st thing that came out of his mouth was.......Oh, You are going to have to learn how to ride all over again!! Which was mostly true.

It's like riding my dirt bike, it want's to rip your arms off!!:D

I went from a gen 2 Poo 700 to a XP 8 154. Not as drastic of a change, but still took me a couple of rides to get used to it. Watch out that thing will climb anything you point it at, not always a good thing!

Well, in the spirit of T/A Wy. first thing I did was fill it up and throw it on the scales. Happen to have possession of a professional set until next week. Anyway, 154" XP out of the box, full of fluids is 530 pounds.

Lots more welded stuff than before. Tool kit has got to be relocated. I can see why slim thinks it needs more air. It's practically air tight around the motor and clutches. Nothing obvious to cut off the sled to reduce weight.

Two sets of boggie wheels. Has everyone been taking them off? Need scratchers. Lots of foam to cut out. Windshields off or on, or trim? Air intake is going to get powder bog, what to do???? Sway bar off or on? Pilot skis good or bad???

Time to start searching old threads?

I was quite pleased at what it could do in my initial ride!!
I should have many years of great excitement!!!:eek::beer;

Keep up posted as to what you do and what works well!!

By the end of the day, the XP started to wake up. We managed 60 miles, all up and down. I like the riding position, and the seat if comfortable. Doesn't wear you out, riding standing. It needs some clutch adjustments. Probably will disconnect the sway bar, it's a pain to sidehill right now, of course the snow wasn't the best for that. Way different than the old ZX.

Absolutely needs venting, engine compartment gets hot. This summer will be spent cutting a ton of foam out of her, and adding mesh vents. I don't care for the weird windshields, need to cut them down, like the X model did. I can already see the air intake isn't going to work. Too small, powder will clog it.

I wish I could relocate all the switches off the handle bars. To easy to accidentally turn on the hand warmers or reverse. Love the stock handlebar riser, perfect hight. I think the gas gauge sticks. Went from 3/4 to 1/4 in 8 miles. By the end of the day, the oil light came on, on steep decent.

All in all, it's a good sled, glad I bought it. The whipped my butt this weekend, will take some getting used to. Next year should be fun, after a big powder storm.
