Petition to take back our land??

I was in Sioux Falls yesterday and some azzclown was standing in front of Best Buy trying to get people to sign his petition to get the smoking ban put on the ballot for public vote. One guy was arguing with him about why he thought the ban was good and he likes the idea of going into a restauraunt and not coming out smelling like smoke.

That got me thinking.... why couldn't we (sledders, ATV'ers, sportsmen) file a petition to get the closures of public land up for vote? They are taking it away from the public so why not see if that's actually what the "public" thinks is the best idea. If nothing else maybe some media would pick up on the efforst and it would make some news, you hear nothing about it on the news the way it is and too many people don't understand what is going on. When we have such a focus on AIG and GM and all the economy related stuff I can see how something as trife as closing public lands to motorized vehicles is the farthest thing from ABC, FOX, MSNBC, etc's... news topics and many Americans aren't even aware the land is being targeted and what the effects of that will have on the local economies and the land itself.

you can but remember there are di(ks out there on both side too. Years ago i was going down to the grocery store to get some lunch and this lil honey asked if i would sign her petition and all i heard was damn nice melons in my head, which drew my in! any so i start read the vile crap green peace bS and i ended up getting spanked by her for ripping up 1244 names and addresses and throwing them in the trash, or maybe recycle i forget, no it was trash!

Another idea would be to find the access points the greenies use for wilderness and put so many trucks and trailers blocking the road i would be like getting to greenrock at 11am and finding parking, and sledders have a bbq make it hard for them to access wilderness. they would have to walk 2 miles of trucks and trailers.

I like your idea....piss em right off and block access in a 100 percent legal manner.

You want attention.
Block every entrance to yellowstone for a couple weeks in the middle of the busy season.
Make the point to a few million people that is sucks to get locked out of public land.

A petition won't work.
It is federally controled public land. It would take an act of congress to take the land back. You would have to get every state to put it on the ballet at the same time and that isn't going to happen.

Best chance we have is to make SO MUCH noise and make such a neusance of ourselves that they have no choice but to deal with us on our terms. That is how the EPA got started by the enviromentalist (back when an enviromentalist was a good thing). YOu have to MAKE them notice you. As long as all we can do is $itch and moan and file law suits, they will continue to shut us out.
