Personal Trainers??

Hello all,
I was thinking about getting my personal training certification, I would be doing this on the side to what I wanna do once I'm out of school. I was curious as to who else has done it, and what program you go through to get it? I've been active in sports, etc my whole life...and helping others get fit would just be extra incentive. :)
Thanks guys/gals!:D

I have about six freinds that have done it. Pain in the aas but definitely worth the time in the long run. All of them have been very happy and employers have looked very well on it as they were applying for jobs in other fields.

The top level trainers are either 4 year college educated (Exercise Science, Athletic Training, etc...), or the American College of Sports Medicine certification (ACSM).

There are other certifications (ACE, NASM, AFAA, AFPA, etc...) but are not considered professional certifications (these are the certificates usually associated with the trainers at your typical gym).

If it's something you're serious about and want to make a career out of, eventually you'll need a professional certification (that is what your best competition will have).

If you just want to be a trainer at your local Golds or Bally's or 24HR Fitness, look into one of the others.

Good luck!! Even if you dont become a trainer, the education is something you will use the rest of your life.
